Special Counsel Robert Hur’s Feb. 8 report on President Biden’s unauthorized removal, retention, and disclosure of classified information is devastating in its depiction of Joe Biden as: 1) Intentional and careless handling of highly sensitive government secret materials. 2) Decline in mental capacity. 3) Inability to tell the truth when confronted with one’s own actions.
The president’s disastrous impromptu press conference on the night of the report’s release made matters worse.
Here’s my first impression since the report was released on Thursday.
1. The report details multiple pieces of evidence showing that Biden unlawfully and intentionally retained and disclosed classified materials “after becoming Vice President and while a private citizen.”When an individual Deliberately If we retain or disclose confidential material, we will knowingly do so in violation of the law.
No charges against Biden after special counsel investigates mishandling of classified documents
2. This was harmful enough. But the report went on to argue that Biden’s actions cannot be successfully prosecuted, primarily due to his diminished mental capacity.
This conclusion, supported by detailed examples, drew the ire of liberal commentators, but the report speaks for itself. Either Mr. Biden remembers the year his son died, or he’s off by a few years. Either Mr. Biden remembers when his term as vice president began and ended, or he doesn’t.
While Biden and his allies have praised Mr. It has attacked Biden’s diminished mental capacity when he appears to be the subject of prosecution in 2020. But the dog doesn’t hunt.
You can’t have it both ways. You cannot loudly shout that you are exonerated while attacking claims that exonerate you as “gratuitous” and “irrelevant.”
After the special counsel’s report, Biden lashed out at reporters who asked him about age concerns, saying, “That’s your decision!”
3. The report also finds that Mr. Biden’s explanation to Mr. Xu’s team about the improper storage of classified documents was not reliable. In other words, Mr. Biden cooperated with Mr. Xu’s investigation by interviewing him and submitting documents, but he gave what is known in criminal law as a false confession of innocence to the special counsel team. This in itself is evidence that Mr. Biden knew at the time that his actions were illegal.
You can’t have it both ways. You can’t scream about your own alleged impunity while attacking the very things that keep you from the problem as “gratuitous” and “irrelevant.”
4. Biden continued to claim patently false innocence in an impromptu press conference on February 8th. For example, he said all confidential documents found in his home were kept in locked or lockable filing cabinets. This is clearly a mistake. Some of them were found in a torn cardboard box next to potting soil in his garage.
Biden also said none of his materials are top secret. This is also incorrect.
The report clearly states that some of the classified documents were marked as “Top Secret/Classified Information.”
Finally, Biden said he does not share classified information with ghostwriters. This is also not true.
Biden repeatedly gave a ghostwriter a notebook filled with classified material that Biden had written “during information briefings and White House Situation Room meetings on national security, military and foreign policy issues with President Obama.” I read it out loud. The ghostwriter then deleted the recording upon learning of the government investigation.

5. Perhaps most importantly, regarding the issue of Biden’s deliberate state of mind, the report found that some of the classified material that Biden had improperly kept was “in addition to other material of great personal importance to him.” It was discovered in a box containing…that he appears to have had personal use and access to.
The marked classified documents were discovered along with a draft of a handwritten 2009 Thanksgiving memo that Biden sent to President Obama in a last-ditch effort to keep him from sending additional troops to Afghanistan. The documents were evidence of Biden’s position on what he considered one of his most important decisions as vice president. ”

In other words, the classified material Biden held for years, including while he was a civilian, was critical to what he considered his legacy. He did not accidentally or carelessly store or forget them.
So, where does President Biden go from here? Mr. Xu’s report is several hundred pages long. Details of the damage are sure to trickle out over the coming days and weeks.

News outlets may add additional findings after conducting their own investigations. If this is not an election year, it may be forgotten after a while and dismissed as “old news.”
But former President Trump’s campaign team has no intention of letting anyone forget. The report’s findings are expected to be relayed and replayed in the form of “Grandpa’s greatest hits” every time President Trump takes to the stage to talk about our two-tiered justice system. Ru.
