Firefighters are working to extinguish a large fire at a house in South Florida. miami dolphins Tyreek Hill stars Wednesday afternoon.
The fire broke out shortly before 2 p.m. at a home in the 16000 block of Berkshire Court in the gated community of Southwest Ranches.
Aerial footage from Chopper 6 showed heavy smoke billowing from the mansion as crews poured water on it and firefighters cut holes in parts of the roof.
Crews were battling a fire at Tyreek Hill’s Southwest Ranches home Wednesday.
Numerous firefighters and police from multiple nearby agencies responded to the scene, including Davie Fire and Rescue and Broward Sheriff Fire and Rescue.
Bob Taylor of Davie Fire Rescue said the fire was confined to the attic and roof, but there was smoke damage to most of the house. Taylor said it was too early to determine the cause of the fire.
No injuries were reported, Taylor said.
Hill, the Dolphins’ star wide receiver, was at the team’s practice on Wednesday and was not home at the time of the incident.
A Dolphins spokesperson said Hill was removed from practice and everyone at the home at the time was safe.
Footage showed Hill, wearing a white T-shirt, dark sweatpants and a boot on his left foot, returning to his home and hugging his family.
The fire appears to have been extinguished by around 3 p.m., but a large hole was left in part of the roof.
Hill’s attorney, Drew Rosenhaus, said it was unclear whether the family would be able to stay at the home Wednesday night, but Hill was thankful no one was hurt.
“A fire in your home is extremely difficult for anyone, but Tyreek and his family responded with the calm demeanor you would expect, and we would like to thank the firefighters who saved their home,” Rosenhaus said. “I was doing it,” he said.
Hill bought the mansion in 2022 for $6.9 million, according to property records.
The 9,300 square foot home has seven bedrooms, eight bathrooms, a home theater, a full-size basketball court, a huge pool, and two guesthouses.
Hill, 29, was traded from the Kansas City Chiefs to the Dolphins in 2022 and signed a four-year contract extension worth an estimated $120 million.
The Dolphins’ injury report, released Wednesday ahead of the team’s game against the Buffalo Bills on Sunday night, lists Hill with an ankle injury.
Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa told reporters he learned of the fire after practice and after Hill left to go home.
“The important thing is that his family is safe, his loved ones are well and he is well,” Tagovailoa said. “We are so happy that so many of his family members are safe… Our thoughts are with the family and we hope everyone is safe.”
