PROVO, Utah (ABC4 Sports) – Six-time PGA Tour champion Tony Finau will hold a clinic Monday at the Riverside Country Club for the 5 for the Fight golf tournament to raise money to support the fight. lent his name to help cancer.
“I’m very supportive of ‘5 for the Fight’. I’ve been affected by cancer myself,” said Finau, who will play at next week’s British Open. “So I think it’s really important for me to be able to support such a big cause. I spent time with you.”
Finau wasn’t the only celebrity in Provo to support the cause. Former Jazz Guard Deron Williams, Former Governor Gary Herbert, Jazz Owner Ryan Smith, Champions Tour Winner Bruce Summerhayes, Former Youth and Current Philadelphia Eagles Receiver Britain Covey was also present.
“I think it’s such a great cause,” Covey said. “My 9-month-old daughter is playing with a friend who has cancer.
“It’s a big cause,” Herbert said. “Everybody gets cancer. I don’t know a family member, friend or relative who hasn’t had cancer. So it’s great to be a part of this big cause.”
“I just think the community is coming together around a great cause and ‘5 For the Fight’, and that’s pretty cool,” Smith said. “We’re all here with people we know and love, and Utah always shows up.”
Smith flew in from Summer League in Las Vegas to get here. He helped start the ‘5 for the Fight’ campaign when he became an owner of Jazz and will continue to contribute to funding and awareness.
“Everything we do, this is just one part of it. We are all family,” Smith said. “Tony is a fan of jazz. It feels like we’re all here and we’re all in this together. That’s the Utah way.”
Today’s event raised nearly $250,000.
