Federal investigators raided former Vice President Mike Pence’s Washington, D.C. office on Friday for classified information, but found no new classified documents, according to a Pence spokesman.
The raid followed the FBI’s search of the Indiana home after former Vice President Pence’s attorney found classified documents at Pence’s Indiana home last month.
“The Department of Justice conducted a thorough and unrestricted search of the offices of Advancing American Freedom today for several hours and found no new documents containing classified markings. A binder containing the documents was seized,” Pence Counsel Devin O’Malley said in a statement.
The documents in the binder were thought to be in preparation for the 2020 debate, according to people familiar with the matter.
CNN has reached out to the FBI and the Justice Department for comment.
The investigation, conducted by agreement with Pence’s attorney present, included both documents marked classified and unclassified documents that may fall under the Presidential Records Act. .
The FBI’s search of Pence’s office and residence follows federal agents searching the former office and residence of President Joe Biden after discovering him in possession of classified documents late last year. It was done in response to
