
Retired Fairfield Teacher Earns Prestigious Honor
The Fairfield-Suisun Unified School District announced that retired teacher Cindy Lederer has received the prestigious Verne Landreth Award from the California Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance. This award recognizes outstanding and notable achievements, contributions and service to the CAHPERD organization and profession.
Cindy Lederer has been a dedicated educator for 37 years, 27 of those years teaching physical education at FSUSD elementary, middle and high schools. During her career, Lederer has demonstrated a tireless commitment to the well-being of her students and her FSUSD goals. She received her 2017 FSUSD District Teacher Award.
“We are thrilled that Cindy Lederer has been recognized with this well-deserved honor,” said Chris Corey, Superintendent of Education at FSUSD. “Her dedication to promoting physical fitness and a healthy lifestyle is inspiring and we appreciate her many contributions to our district and this community.”
CAHPERD is a non-profit group of education and physical activity professionals whose mission is to promote healthy lifestyles through quality education for all and to promote school, community and health education in the fields of health, physical education and recreation. The Verne Landreth Award is the highest honor awarded by CAHPERD and is named in honor of physical education pioneers who have made significant contributions to the field of physical education. This award is presented annually to members who have demonstrated exceptional dedication and service to the organization and profession.
“I am very honored to receive the Verne Landres Award. CAHPERD has been an important part of my professional life,” said Lederer. “If you are lucky enough to find your passion in life and he has been with you for 37 years, that passion will not make you retire. I am very lucky to have it.”
Local student named to list of deans at Biola University
By Fall 2022, approximately 1,700 students have been enrolled on the Biola University dean’s list. Biola University students are placed on the Dean’s List, which recognizes students who are enrolled in 12 credits or more, have a GPA of 3.6 or above, and have a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or above.

- Amelia Weiss of Fairfield, Nursing Major
- Hailey Wurzbach of Fairfield, majoring in Undecided
- Tatum Wurzbach of Fairfield, Business Administration
