When most people think of Italy, they probably think of the Colosseum or the Amalfi Coast. But what if we told you there’s more to this beautiful country than that? Try some new places the next time you plan your visit to Italy.
Northern Italy has a lot to offer
Today we will focus on Northern Italy. It’s a place straight out of a fairy tale. No one likes to travel without a plan. We can help you with that. We’ve created a list of things to do while visiting enchanting Northern Italy.
1. Admire Milan’s magnificent Duomo cathedral
Milan is a city of fashion. Known as Europe’s most influential fashion capital, the upscale district known as the Quadriartero della Moda is lined with stores from major brands. This district consists of four streets. This city is really lovely and a bit different from other Italian cities as it embraces modern trends more than any other city. There’s much more to see in Milan than the obvious Duomo Cathedral.
The city center is built around the Duomo and represents the historic city center. The Duomo of Milan is his 14th century architectural masterpiece and one of his three cathedrals in the world. The Duomo is the most famous symbol of Gothic architecture and is widely considered a symbol of the city. Besides the Duomo, we recommend seeing Da Vinci’s Last Supper, visiting the Navigli district, and watching football at the San Siro/Giuseppe his Meazza stadium.
2. Take in breathtaking views of Lake Como
Lake Como, better known to Italians as Lake Como, is a place of idyllic scenery. The beauty of the lake cannot be expressed in words, but I will do my best to convey it to you. We believe that Lake Como is one of the most beautiful tourist attractions in Northern Italy. This lake is widely known as a celebrity getaway, and its shores are lined with some of the most beautiful villas, one of which is owned by none other than George Clooney. There is so much to do in this place apart from its unique nature, and that’s all there is to it. Taking a boat tour should definitely be on your to-do list. Como is surrounded by surreal towns such as Bellagio and Nesso. While you’re here, sample world-famous Italian cuisine. The Lake District is full of great restaurants.
3. Ride on the canals of Venice
The fairytale world of narrow canals and breathtaking cathedrals has proven to be an iconic place throughout the ages, with legends like William Shakespeare dedicating one of his novels to the city . When you come to Venice by boat and look at the city from a distance, it feels like the whole city is floating on water. Writing or reading words alone cannot describe Venice. I recommend visiting if possible. This is due to the sinking of Venice and rising sea levels. Experts say it won’t be around for much longer.
While supplies last, we suggest a few items for your Venice must-do list. The gondola that runs through the narrow canals is one of the symbols of the town. If you miss this, it will be as if you were never there. Enjoy a romantic cruise aboard a gondola and enjoy breathtaking views like no other. Second on the list of things to do is visit Piazza San Marco, the heart of the city.
4. See the Vittoria Lighthouse in Trieste
Victoria Lighthouse, also known as Victory Lighthouse, is located in a small town on the eastern edge of northern Italy. The town in question is Trieste. This beautiful little town is the closest town to the Croatian border. The symbol of the town is the lighthouse. This gleaming stone tower is 223 feet tall, making it one of the tallest in the world.
This tower represents victory in World War I. The lighthouse grounds are open to visitors two days a week. To reach the top of the tower, you have to climb 285 steps, which is a bit of a challenge, but it gives you an incredible sense of accomplishment, which makes the experience even more unique. The view from the top of the tower is amazing, so I highly recommend it.
5. Romeo and Juliet’s house, Verona
Return to Shakespeare and his famous plays Romeo and Juliet. Verona truly has the adjective of being a romantic city. As you walk through the city, the lights sparkle and everything around you is reminiscent of a Disney movie. I highly recommend visiting this place for your anniversary or honeymoon. There is no better place for romantic souls than Verona. Take a photo on the famous Juliet’s balcony, write a romantic letter and paste it on the wall of your home. We also recommend checking out the ancient Roman amphitheater Verona His Arena.
6. Take a photo next to the Leaning Tower of Pisa
This iconic Tower of Pisa is a worldwide landmark. This tilting phenomenon occurred in his 12th century due to the weak foundation of the tower and soft soil that could not support the weight of the tower. This 183-foot tower is unique because of its slope. Apart from this phenomenon, the architecture of this tower is beautiful and exciting.
It’s a great place to explore, as it captures the authentic feel of a small Italian town, with great restaurants and monuments. The tower is located in a pleasant green field, where you can sit and rest with an espresso and enjoy the stunning views.
7. See the villages of Cinque Terre
Cinque Terre is a coastal region consisting of five stunning villages perched on the cliffs of the Mediterranean Riviera. Monterosso al he has five villages: Mare, Vernazza, Corniglia, Riomaggiore and Manarola. This charming and picturesque area offers breathtaking views and an insight into traditional Italian coastal life. We guarantee that this is one of the most beautiful places in Europe.
Take a boat tour and see villages worth a million dollars. Don’t miss this hiking tour that connects the villages of Riomaggiore and Manarola. As you climb the city steps and sample local seafood, you can’t miss Vernazza’s joyful colors.
8. Visit the wonderful Bergamo
This charming medieval city is located in the Italian Alps, just over 39 miles from Milan. Bergamo is a hidden gem in Northern Italy. Famous for its towers, churches, historic villages, funiculars, ramparts and staircases, Bergamo has everything a medieval city has to offer. The city he is divided into two parts. Citta Alta, the historic part of the city, and Citta Bassa, the modern part with boulevards, squares and fashion shops.
As well as visiting the city’s museums and exploring Bergamo’s narrow streets, you won’t regret going for a hike in the areas surrounding the city. This area is known for its delicious domestic wine, so if you’re a wine lover, this is a place you should definitely visit.
9. Portofino
With its breathtaking views and picturesque, colorful buildings, fishing villages are a must-stop on any trip. Here you can stroll around Portofino Harbor and admire the luxury yachts moored in the harbor. Apart from that, Portofino also has some history. Be sure to add historic Brown Castle to your list. There are beautiful gardens here that are not to be missed.
10. Travel back in time to Florence
Florence, the birthplace of the Italian Renaissance, was once one of the wealthiest places in Europe. Probably one of the most beautiful cities in Italy and one of the most unique. Walking around the city feels like walking through a museum. Visit Florence’s Duomo or Piazza della Signora, his famous 13th-century Gothic buildings with incredible mosaics and frescoes, and you’ll feel like someone has put you in the history books .
A visit to the Accademia Gallery, home to Michelangelo’s David, as well as various works of art by Michelangelo, Leonardo, and many other Italian artists, should be on your must-see list. Apart from that, don’t miss the famous Ponte Vecchio, a medieval stone bridge spanning the River Arno, one of the most famous landmarks in Florence and all of Italy. The Boboli Gardens and Pitti Palace perfectly match expectations and confirm how much variety you can see here.
11. Immerse yourself in Turin’s exclusive atmosphere
The country’s most important business and cultural center is a little different than most, but in a good way. The capital of northern Italy is the richest and most organized city in Italy. It offers the feel of a modern European city and a strong historical background. Like the rest of Italy, Turin is full of beautiful squares like Piazza San Carlo, cathedrals like the Basilica of San Giovanni Battista, churches, and museums. This former Italian capital is associated with the Italian royal family.
Apart from that, there is one thing this city is highly praised for. It’s the auto industry. Please check out “Museo Dell Automobilei”. Here you’ll find a collection of over 200 cars from 80 different brands, from modern cars to steam cars. This is a very rare vehicle that you don’t see very often.
