Through the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office
For more than a week in Tennessee, a pet Zebra named Ed was finally captured, not before becoming an internet legend and his own meme.

Ed’s big escape began on May 31, 2025 when his owner reported he was missing in Christiana, Tennessee, just south of Nashville. Despite Zebra’s distinctive black and white stripes, he remained hidden from searchers for days. At one point he felt dashing along Interstate 24. Deputies were forced to close parts of the road for safety. Still, Ed slid down again, disappearing into the woods like a hoofed hoodini.
Edzebra’s escape ends in the sky
According to ReportEd had arrived in Christiana a day before bidding for freedom. His weekly journey included a suburban walk and a cameo of the virus. Several residents filmed him, ran around the neighborhood and galloped near the highway.

The Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office announced Sunday that Ed was found on a meadow near the Christiana parcel. Rather than attempting to capture the ground, the authorities chose something more like a movie. The air crew swooped, netting Ed and lifted him up on a helicopter to the animal trailer waiting for him.

It wasn’t the most elegant return, but Ed looked unharmed as he was hanging in the air. His head plunged through the net while he hanged like a character from a Disney movie. The sheriff’s office posted the video online, adding to Ed’s already burgeoning fame.
Ed the Zebra meme took over the internet
The Internet has made wild posts about Ed Zebra on social media sites like Bluesky and X. MadagascarEd Cast as Marty’s zebra version on an unauthorized vacation.
@martian-observer.art Posted on Bluesky: “*Recorded Scratch**Freeze Frame*Yes, that’s me. I think I’ve probably got to this situation.”
“I’m having fun Madagascar It’s a movie like anyone else, but these live action remakes go a little too far.” @justin_buznedo.
Fans look forward to projecting thoughts into Ed’s head and telling his animal friends about his adventures.

“Thank you for the police to publish the photos, otherwise if you saw a zebra walking down the street, you wouldn’t know that it was ‘I wanted’,” he wrote. @ajcraigh.
@mapledonutMeanwhile, “The zebra will have some serious stories to tell him when he’s back. He tweeted, “Hey, I was flying!” Yes, any man, “Seriously!!!”
@donaldtheuncredy.bsky.social I posted an image of Ed the Zebra on the airlift harness with the caption, “How Your Mail Found Me.”
