D’Wayne Wiggins, one of the founding members of the new Jack Swing Group Tony of the 90s! Toni! Toné! died at 64 after a private battle with bladder cancer.
The band’s official website has been announced Instagram“With a broken heart, we share with you that you and our beloved Daune passed away this morning surrounded by family and loved ones. Over the past year he has personally and courageously fought bladder cancer.
“D’Wayne’s life is unparalleled,” followed by the post, and his music and service influenced millions around the world, including his hometown in Oakland, California.
“For now, we ask that you continue to respect our privacy. We are deeply grateful for you and your grieving and for your love and support,” he concluded.
Born on February 14th, 1961 in Oakland, California, he formed Tony! Toni! tone! With Raphael Saadik and Timothy Christian Reilly.
The band released four albums since 1988. After successful crossovers with singles “Little Walter” (1988) and “The Blues” (1990), they broke through with mainstream smash “Good” (1990).
This began with six top-10 hit strings, including “It Never Rains (in Southern California)” (1990), “If II If I Lot” (1993), “Anniversary” (1993), “(1994) (1994) and “Thinking of You” (1997).
In addition to commercial success, the group was extremely influential with significant darlings. In 1995, Wiggins founded Grassroots Entertainment at the West Auckland studio House of Music, developing and signing new Destiny children. He worked with them for three albums.
He released his solo album Eyes Never Lie in 2000, in collaboration with Jamie Foxx, Carlos Santana and Darius Rucker. Other notable artists Wiggins worked for included Alicia Keys, Too Short, Rudacris.
Acting in the film Get Money (2003), Wiggins also produced the film Me & Mrs Jones (2001), and was the bandleader of DL Hughley’s show Weekend at DL (2005).
