Draymond Green missed the Warriors’ first two games of the 2023-24 NBA season due to an ankle injury, but the veteran forward is scheduled to return to the court on Sunday.
Green told reporters Saturday that he will make his season debut against the Houston Rockets at Toyota Center, about a month after spraining his left ankle for the first time this offseason. Green has said he expects to be limited in minutes, but told reporters at Saturday’s practice that he doesn’t know whether he’ll start or come off the bench (h/t The Athletic Anthony Slater).
Green was cleared to participate in 5-on-5 practice last week after missing all of the Warriors’ preseason games. His ankle injury occurred just before training camp, when he stepped on teammate Jonathan Kuminga’s foot while attempting a layup during a pickup game.
The Warriors lost to the Phoenix Suns in the season opener and are now 1-1 without their defensive leader after defeating the Sacramento Kings on Friday night at Golden 1 Center. As they continue to learn new routines with Chris Paul on the floor, Green’s return would add a needed piece and add another piece to Steve Kerr’s puzzle.
