A grocery store customer was recently lectured by an employee for double-bagging while shopping at a self-checkout counter. But the employee’s suggestion was in one word baffling.
A video discussing the situation, by self-proclaimed “professional mixed martial artist” TikToker Adam (@its_.me._adam), has amassed over 1.6 million views in its first four days on the platform. .
Adam said at the beginning of the video: “He’s 100% sure that almost everyone on this app has been to this grocery store. I won’t name names because that’s not what this video is really about.”
He said certain stores where he shopped have moved from manned counters to self-checkout.

“So it’s my turn to go to the self-checkout and bring my bags,” he continued. “And an employee at this facility said to me, ‘Why are you double-packing?’ I said, ‘Excuse me?’ “Don’t double pack,” she said. why would you do that? ‘”
He replied: “My luggage is kind of heavy. And sometimes the handle breaks and the bottom comes off. And I just don’t want to deal with that.”
The employee suggested, “Why don’t you pack less and have just one bag?”
Then he replied, “Should we take half the items out of this bag and put them in another bag?”
She acknowledged this and he reflected, “I’m not following your logic.”
She then tries to explain it to the employee with an example, confirming that she thinks it would be less wasteful to separate the double bagged package of milk and juice into a single bag of milk and a single bag of juice. Did.
“Aren’t the bags the same number?” he asked.
She insisted, “No, it’s not the same.”
Afterwards, he told the employee, “If you think you can do a better job, you can bag it,” but she told him, “No, that’s not my job.” .
“This is why playing with these toys is so important as kids who like to put circles into circles and squares into squares. There is,” Adam said at the end of the video.
Avoiding double-packaging of bags was key for this employee, but that’s not the only concern with self-checkout at major grocery chains. According to a May 2023 report, streetI have Correlation between self-checkout and increased theft.
“If the customer has several items, this is a reasonable setup,” the article said. “Because of the limited staging space, more would be a logic puzzle. That puts paid items next to free items, making the chances of both intentional and unintentional theft much higher.”
Viewers clearly had thoughts they wanted to share about Adam’s double-bag situation, and his post garnered over 20,000 comments.
“If I were you, I would have started triple-bagging everything,” joked one.
“‘It’s not my job’…it’s not my job either, but I bag my groceries anyway, so I’ll bag it the way I want it, thank you,” another commented. .
One person responded to an employee’s math prowess by saying, “That’s how you became Employee of the Month.”
Many commenters also tried to guess the double-bagless grocery store TikToker was referring to.
“Don’t say you went to Walmart, just say you went to Walmart,” said one who came to share the belief that the author was describing Walmart.
Another said, “Walmart!! If I have to check my groceries, I use the bag as much as I want.”
