Diego Luna and Gael García Bernal are starring in the new miniseries La Machina. The series follows an aging boxer whose cunning manager secures his last chance at the title.
‘Extra’s’ Melvin Robert spoke to Diego and Gael about their bond. Their bond goes back to their childhood, when they played Nerf basketball together.
When asked who won, Gael recalled: It was like a story. ”
“In my memory, we lost at the end…I remember being very competitive,” Diego said, recalling when Gael got the upgraded game. It will be counted and your score will be displayed. I think that’s the moment he took over. ”
Diego laughed. “I found myself getting distracted by parties and other things in my life.”
The two have maintained a long friendship over the years, but what is their secret?
“I think we can do great things together because we care about each other more than anything else,” Diego said.
“Thanks to our friendship, we can do whatever we want,” Diego emphasized. “We have a company, we do movies, we do TV, we do theater. But at the end of the day, what’s really important and what I’m really proud of is that we… It’s a friendship we’ve cultivated over the years.”
“The fact that we continue to work together, the fact that we continue to work together, is part of an artistic journey that is perhaps less conscious,” Gael said. “It’s a little more like nature. “It’s like being or first nature.” It’s a great privilege for us to be able to do that. ”
While they worked on “La Máquina,” Diego’s hair and makeup transformation took two hours to start the day, then 45 minutes at the end of the day.
He recalled being upset at times, saying, “I was very insecure and could get angry easily, but when the character suddenly turned on completely, I thought, ‘This is it.’ It’s a beautiful tool to bring everything out… It’s been a lot of fun being this guy, but it’s been a pain to get there, and it’s been a process. ”
Due to the makeup involved on his lips, Diego could only drink shakes through a straw while in costume. He said, “I was shaking every day. I was shaking all day and into the night.” He added, “I became an expert on shakes. I had the best machine and it was beautiful. I had everything I needed in there. I was like a pharmacist. It’s like, you know what? It’s like a shake can cure you. But yeah, the shake is over, the straw is over.”
“La Máquina” will premiere on Hulu on October 9th.
