“If anyone else has had an experience like this, please let me know,” she said. As of this writing, her video sharing the driver’s actions and what she believes to be a new fraudulent scheme has garnered more than 380,500 views.
Are DoorDash drivers scamming customers?
At least that’s what @justmtvofficial seems to believe.
“Apparently there’s a DoorDash scam,” she said at the beginning of the nearly five-minute video.
According to @justmtvofficial, she ordered a sunset lamp from DoorDash, but Dasher called her and said the item was out of stock. She said the driver asked if she wanted a replacement to take her place.
“If you don’t have a sunset lamp, you don’t need a regular lamp,” said @justmtvofficial. That’s when the driver made a strange request, she said. She said the man asked her side to cancel the order and asked the employee if a lamp was available.
But the content creator said the exchange “raised red flags.”
@justmtvofficial said the driver texted her a few minutes later to say the lamp she wanted was out of stock. But when he checked his app, he realized the driver wasn’t even in or near the store. That’s when she realized the fraud.
She said she realized that if a customer cancels an order after Dasher goes to the store and attempts to fulfill the order, the customer will not receive a refund, but Dasher will still receive half the price of the order. .
“This guy just kicked me out of the sunset lamp and still tried to get paid for it. I think this is ridiculous,” she said.
By the way, what is a sunset lamp?
A lively indoor lamp that projects a sunset-colored atmosphere onto the wall. It recently became very popular on TikTok. as beautiful house “Typically equipped with colorful light bulbs, they give off a fuzzy glow that’s perfect for golden hour.” There are no official benefits to solar lamps, but solar lamps can help, especially when natural light is at a premium. A warm wash provides a peaceful rest. ”
Eventually, @justmtvofficial reported Dasher and said the new driver complied with her orders. Naturally, the new driver was able to find a sunset lamp at the same store that the first driver said was unavailable.
“He just tried to extort money from me and didn’t even try to complete my order,” @justmtvofficial said. “Thankfully, I didn’t cancel the order.”
DoorDash issues
@justmtvofficial is certainly not the first DoorDash customer to report issues with the delivery app. Common problems associated with drop-offs include dashers leaving food or other items in inconvenient locations or customers discovering their order is missing an item.
One customer said Dasher threw away his coffee order because he didn’t tip. Another woman said she ordered DoorDash for work and it took nearly two hours to arrive.
Of course, customers aren’t the only victims of DoorDash. Some store employees report problems with difficult shoppers. As the Daily Dot previously reported, some Dashers report being paid extremely low wages or having dishonest customers send them to the wrong address.
Viewers are torn over ‘fraud’ theory
It’s true that customers and dashers alike experience issues with DoorDash. But in the comments section of @justmtvofficial’s video, some DoorDash employees expressed skepticism about the fraud allegations reported by @justmtvofficial.
“The Dash representative doesn’t see the item you’re picking up until you request it,” one employee said. “My guess is [is] After he saw what it was, he didn’t want to do it, but he didn’t want to give up your score and lower your score. [order.]”
“I drive for DoorDash and I have to check in when I get to the store,” said another. “You must be within a certain radius of the store to check in, so you should be able to get a full refund even if you cancel your order.”
However, some agree with @justmtvofficial and advise against canceling their own orders.
One person wrote: “Never cancel your order.” “phone [customer service] If you cancel it yourself, you will receive a full refund. ”
Another viewer added: “Never cancel your order.” “Never.”
Is it time to retire DoorDash?
Due to reported issues with DoorDash, many users, including former drivers, say they have refused to use the app.
“I stopped using DD. Every time I ordered food, the main dish was missing,” one viewer shared.
A second customer said, “Doordash has a lot of scammers in the area so I use Uber Eats.”
