With videos from over 4 million viewers, Tiktoker Zekorgv (@zekomode.98) Pick up 12 packs of Marchan Ramen Noodle Soup. The viral ticoku sound, “Oh, what a god, my sheila,” plays in the background.
Tiktoker enlarges the price tag with the words “$17.00”.
The text on the screen says, “The tariffs were hit.” The caption continues, “There’s no lunch for a week.”
Is Marchan Ramen actually $17?
Despite Tiktoker’s panic, several viewers said they zoomed in on the price tag and realized it was “Astragalus Root.” It’s not Maruchan’s ramen.
“As a Walmart employee, you can confirm that Astragalus’ route is $17. A 12-pack Marchan ramen is $3.68,” he wrote.
“You need to learn how to read all the labels! These would probably have been put in the wrong place,” another person said.
“Yeah, I didn’t realize that Astragalus root is another word for ramen,” the third added.
Many shoppers are worried about rising food prices due to tariffs, so they called for tiktalkers to incite panic.
“That price is for something else… haha! Don’t scare me like that,” viewers said.
“It’s not the price of ramen, you know it, it’s in the wrong place,” another wrote.
Will tariffs increase the price of Marchan Ramen?
On April 9th, the current administration established A. Wide 10% tariffs On all imports and some additional “retaliatory” tariffs on certain countries, including China. In the comments, I fear that these tariffs will make low-cost staples unruly.
“I don’t even have the time to eat now,” writes someone.
“It’s for the rich now,” another said.
“Yeah, peers, US businesses affected by tariffs need to raise prices a lot. Trump seems to be ruining a big time,” the third added.
But will Marchan be affected by these tariffs?
According to Maruchan’s website, its ramen noodles soup is produced in the United States. Customs duties do not directly affect prices.
Daily Dot contacted Zekorgv and Maruchan for further comments.
