A Costco customer recently tried to blame the wholesaler for ruining her son’s graduation cake, but viewers were solidly on Costco’s side, with many calling out the woman for making a fuss.
TikToker Mama Butter (@mamabutteronaroll) video Earlier this week, she shared a “wild” story about a recent shopping spree at Costco, and admittedly, she wasn’t happy.
“I just cut up my graduation cake that I bought at Costco,” Mama Butters said. “I’m going to show this to everyone.”
She then showed viewers a sheet cake covered in a thin vanilla-like frosting.
“I’ve never been more disappointed with Costco in my life,” Mama Butter said. “How could this even happen?”
As of Sunday, her video had been viewed more than 3.5 million times.
What went wrong with the cake?
Many viewers said that at first glance, they couldn’t see anything wrong with the dessert.
“Looks like a normal cake to me,” one commenter wrote.
“Wondering what went wrong and wishing I had a piece of it too,” another user added.
In response, Mama Butter said the cake was supposed to have cheesecake filling. “There’s not enough filling,” she said. Another commenter noted that the cake costs $24.99.
In the video, Mama Butter questioned how Costco could have gotten her order wrong.
“Nothing,” she said. “Absolutely nothing. I can’t believe it. How could that happen, Costco? What did you do to my cake?”
Near the end of the video, Mama Butter reiterated her disappointment: “My heart is broken tonight,” she said.

What has been the audience reaction?
Some Costco customers say they would be thrilled if they received an empty cake.
“Finally a cake with no filling,” said one person.
“Now I want some Costco cake,” another user wrote.
“I would be so happy if my Costco products were like this,” a third commenter added. “I hate custard.”
But even after finding out what was wrong with the cake, some viewers still couldn’t understand why a simple mistake had sparked such outrage, leading many to joke that Mama Butter was exaggerating.
“Have you called the authorities?” one person asked.
“Praying to the Lord Jesus Christ to get you through this horrible tragedy,” another said sarcastically, “Stay strong!”
“The good news is… I think you’ll survive,” a third person wrote.
At least Mama Butter seemed aware that her response came off as a bit theatrical. “It’s good to be ridiculously dramatic sometimes,” she replied to one commenter. “I just can’t live my life that way.”
