of South security checkpoint It’s currently open seven days a week, but starting May 5, the Transportation Security Administration will close it for the quietest two hours at night.
From this date onwards, travelers will no longer be able to pass through any checkpoints and no bag checks will be conducted between 1am and 3am.
TSA spokeswoman Laurie Dankers said the last flight out of the Denver airport departs at 12:59 a.m. each day, and the earliest flight is always at 5 a.m. Those who book the 5am flight should have plenty of time to get through security and depart. The start time is 3 a.m., Dankers said.
This change will help TSA manage its airport workforce, allowing employees with more seniority to work the shifts they want on a more regular basis. It also helps passengers get through security checkpoints during the day.
“We want to keep the maximum number of lanes open during the busiest times,” Dankers said.
Dankers said many airports do not have 24-hour checkpoints.
“We’re always looking at ways to make things more efficient,” Dankers said.
