As the border crisis intensifies, Democrats are working tirelessly to distract from the alarming reality that illegal immigrants are committing crimes in American cities. Democrats are acutely aware that every time illegal immigrants commit a crime, their complicity is inevitably spotlighted.
In the aftermath of the tragic murder of Laken Riley, a young nursing student allegedly killed by an illegal immigrant from Venezuela, Democratic Party spokespeople made similar tired claims that illegal immigrants commit fewer crimes than American citizens. They rushed to spread the word.
Glenn Kessler of NPR and the Washington Post recently parroted a study that claims male immigrants have lower rates of incarceration than their native-born counterparts.
No one disputes that illegal immigrants commit crimes. more They commit more crimes than Americans (unless you count illegal immigration, of course). The problem is that they commit crimes while in the country illegally. If border security were effective, these crimes would not occur.
Authorities have illegally busted several violent criminals in the United States, including a man who was arrested 12 times in eight years.
In my latest book, “What’s Killing America: Inside the Radical Left’s Tragic Destruction of Our Cities” and exposes the fallacy of data-based claims about illegal immigrant crimes.
Consider, for example, the alarming number of illegal immigrants charged with crimes in Washington, Oregon, and California on the West Coast. Are you ready? Thanks to state protection policies that prohibit law enforcement from investigating citizenship status, that number is zero.
If you are charged with shoplifting in San Francisco, hit-and-run in Portland, or assault in Seattle, your citizenship status will not be checked due to the sanctuary policy.
This lack of documentation creates a skewed picture of crime rates, especially in sanctuary cities where incidents that could lead to deportation are avoided. Even when illegal immigrants commit crimes and avoid prison sentences through diversion programs, their citizenship status remains undocumented. Radical Los Angeles County Attorney George Gascón even ordered prosecutors to avoid cases that affected immigrants.
‘Shocking’ California bill to protect violent illegal immigrants from deportation draws fierce backlash
“All surcharge decisions must be made with the purpose of avoiding or mitigating, where known, possible, or permissible, the adverse immigration consequences of the decision,” the policy mandates. “If, under the circumstances and in the interest of public safety, alternatives to prosecution exist, those alternatives shall be pursued.”
How can we trust crime rate data if crimes are intentionally left unpunished to hide citizenship? Furthermore, with the influx of unidentified illegal immigrants crossing the border, comparisons with American citizens It has become difficult to accurately assess their crime rates.
Democrats downplay these crimes, but innocent Americans suffer the consequences.
Just this month, a tragic incident received little national attention. An undocumented immigrant with a long criminal history has been charged with the murder of 27-year-old Washington police officer Christopher Gadd, who left behind his wife and 2-year-old daughter. Raul Benitez Santana admitted to drinking and smoking marijuana before crashing into a police officer’s car on Interstate 5 north of Seattle early one weekend morning, according to court documents.

ICE confirmed that Santana was in the country illegally from Mexico. It is unclear when he entered this country illegally, but he is serving time in prison. Two degrees Since 2013, he was originally charged with a deportable crime if anyone had been legally allowed to ask about his citizenship status.
Santana was charged in August 2017 with assaulting his on-again, off-again girlfriend, leaving her with a broken nose and a bloody face. During the search, Santana was found in possession of “multiple identification documents with various names and other altered identifying information, such as a social security number,” according to court records. This would normally raise suspicions that he was in the country illegally. But if law enforcement suspected he was in the country illegally, they would have had to ignore him.
By August 2017, King County officials (along with the city of Seattle) proudly declared themselves a sanctuary for illegal immigrants. By 2019, Santana was offered a time-limited, non-felony plea deal two days after the governor signed the Democratic sanctuary state law into law.

This is just one example of how illegal immigration can lead to preventable tragedies. Democrats’ open borders policies are having real consequences as more innocent Americans fall victim to crimes that could have been avoided with stricter immigration policies.
It’s time for Democrats to recognize the danger posed by illegal immigration and prioritize the safety of Americans over political agendas. Denying this reality only perpetuates the cycle of crime and victimization in our communities.
