A chilling new trailer for “The Substance” has been released!
In this nasty beauty horror film, Demi Moore plays Elizabeth Sparkle, a leading fitness TV actress past her prime who is fired by her studio head (Dennis Quaid) and leads her down a dark path.
Sparkle decides to try a mysterious new drug that will allow her to be reborn as the young and attractive Sue (Margaret Qualley), but there’s a catch: the effect is only temporary, and she must split her time between her two selves.
In the trailer, Elizabeth stares into the mirror as a voiceover asks, “Have you ever dreamed of being younger, more beautiful, more perfect?”
Viewers then get a glimpse of the scene “powering up” and Sparkle lying on the floor in excruciating pain, but the situation gets worse as the trailer shows a bloody car crash and a character flying across a room and landing on a glass table, shattering it.
The scene then cuts to Sue covered in blood and Elizabeth wiping lipstick off her face.
Quaid also appears in the trailer as a cantankerous studio head, munching on food in one scene and, surrounded by men in another, declaring that “pretty girls should always smile.”
The horror film, directed by Coralie Fargé, made a big splash at the Cannes Film Festival, receiving an 11-minute standing ovation and winning the award for Best Original Screenplay.
The film will be released in theaters on September 20th.
