A flight from Detroit to Amsterdam was diverted to New York’s Kennedy Airport on Wednesday after passengers were served spoiled food, Delta Airlines officials said.
The overnight flight took off from Detroit at about 11pm on Tuesday and arrived in New York at 4am “following reports of some main cabin meal spoilage,” a Delta spokesman said in a statement.
A spokesman for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which runs the airport, said 14 of the plane’s 277 passengers and 10 crew members were treated by medical staff upon landing and none required hospitalization.
It is unclear how many people ate the rotten food in total.
Delta Air Lines said it would investigate the incident.
“This is not a service Delta is known for and we sincerely apologize to customers for any inconvenience and travel delays caused,” a Delta spokesperson said.
The port authority said passengers have been provided with hotel rooms and all will be rebooked to their destinations.
