Deion Sanders said NFL teams can hope his son, quarterback Shedule Sanders, and Colorado two-way star Travis Hunter can get out of bad situations in next year’s draft.
“I know where I want them to go,” Sanders said Friday on Barstool Sports’ “Million Dollars Worth of Game” podcast. “I mean, that doesn’t happen in certain cities. It’s going to be Eli.”
In 2004, quarterback Eli Manning said he would not play for the San Diego Chargers, but the Chargers drafted him and immediately traded him to the New York Giants, where Manning won two Super Bowls. .
Sanders specifically named San Francisco, Dallas, Washington, and Baltimore as destinations for Shedule Sanders and Hunter, whom Sanders called his “fourth son” last year.
“I pray that God sends my baby somewhere warm, not cold,” Sanders told hundreds of fans at the final stop of his book tour last week.
Sanders said he expects both Hunter Sanders and Shedur Sanders to be drafted in the top four, but he doesn’t know which one will be drafted higher. He said last week that Sanders would “probably” be the second quarterback in this year’s draft. Shedur Sanders said he chose not to enter the draft and return to Colorado because he was not happy with the way the Buffaloes’ season ended. Colorado fell to 4-8, with Sanders missing the final game of the season with a back injury.
“The only reason I know that is, don’t you think I know people in the NFL? Sorry, how many years did I play, 14? That I bought a gold jacket in the crib. I think. I think I know some people. Jerry Jones. Arthur Blank. I know some people in the game. Roger Goodell. So when I speak, I just get what’s in my head out. It’s not just that. I’m throwing something based on my knowledge. So let’s get that straight.”
Colorado, which is moving from the Pac-12 to the Big 12 this offseason, opens the season at home against North Dakota State on Aug. 31. The Buffaloes’ spring game is scheduled for April 27th. Sanders announced last week that ESPN would cease broadcasting. They resumed the game as they had a year ago, and instead told the Buffaloes that the network planned to focus on that weekend’s NFL Draft. Sanders said the university is still in talks with Fox and the Pac-12 Networks about the possibility of broadcasting the game.
