Departure on October 22nd carnival luminosa will depart Brisbane, Australia as scheduled at 4pm on Sunday and enjoy the first two days of a seven-night ocean cruise as planned, but the rest of the ship’s itinerary will undergo significant changes.
originally, carnival luminosa was scheduled to visit Lifou Island, New Caledonia, on Wednesday, October 25th, followed by Mystery Island, Vanuatu, on Thursday, and Nouméa, New Caledonia, on Friday. After she spends another day at sea, the ship expects her to return to Brisbane on Sunday, October 29th.
However, due to Cyclone Laura, the ship will take a completely different itinerary. Guests aboard the ship were notified of the changes in a letter distributed upon boarding.
“Our Fleet Operations Center is currently actively monitoring a tropical storm located north of Vanuatu. The predicted path of the storm will preclude us from adhering to our original itinerary.” The letter explained. “We hope you understand that this decision was made with everyone’s safety in mind.”

Due to the dramatic changes to the itinerary, and in recognition of the seriousness of the changes, Carnival Cruise Line will grant an onboard credit of AUD 200 (approximately USD 125) per stateroom.
Additionally, all pre-purchased shore tours for the currently canceled visits to Lifou, Mystery Island and Nouméa will be automatically canceled and refunded to guests’ onboard accounts. Shore excursions to new destinations are currently being arranged and can be booked onboard once confirmed.

Notably, guests who are not interested in cruising on this new itinerary will have the option of a full refund of their cruise fare if they wish.
“We recognize that these changes may no longer suit your vacation needs. If you do not wish to sail, please let your boarding representative know or call our Guest Services department immediately. ” The letter was a concession. “We will issue a full refund of your cruise fare and pre-purchased items.”
Cruise lines are generally not required to offer cancellation or refund options for weather-related changes, but cruise ticket terms and conditions may vary depending on the ship’s home port and the nationality of the guests on board.
Additionally, issuing refunds is great customer service from Carnival Cruise Lines, especially if your itinerary has changed significantly.

Cyclone Laura is located north of Vanuatu and is expected to take a southwesterly course and move across the archipelago over the next three days as the storm strengthens slightly.
Laura is only the seventh South Pacific cyclone to be named in October since 1970, making this storm highly unusual for the region. South Pacific cyclone season runs from November 1st to April 30th each year, but storms can and apparently do form outside of the official dates.
