The Daily Dot reached out to @viviandluong in an email and TikTok comment about this video. This isn’t the first time a customer has complained about his male Instacart shopper. After sharing how shoppers got pointless substitutes, lied about products being out of stock, or flatly refused to complete their orders, other creators said: It went viral.
The TikToker video has garnered over 161,000 views as of Saturday, with female viewers agreeing with its creator.
“You should have some kind of aptitude test before working on a shopping app,” agreed one viewer.
“I think training is actually a good proposition. They should listen.”
“We put a lot of weight on captions,” wrote a third.
Some even shared stories of male Instacart shoppers messing up their orders.
“I got sleeping pills once, but they ran out, so he replaced them with caffeine pills,” one user shared.
“I legitimately asked for a bunch of 6 bananas, but he brought 6 bunches of 5 bananas.”
“I asked for fresh bread and he said he couldn’t find any and instead got a bag of Texas toast with frozen garlic bread,” a third user commented. .
Others, however, jumped to the male shopper’s defense and criticized its creators.
“As a former Instacart shopper, you probably ordered the wrong unit of measure and blame the driver. Drivers only grab what they’re told to grab,” said one.
“I guarantee that the exchange or item quantity was provided to the shopper by the app. Don’t assume until you’ve done both sides of me,” was the second criticism.
“I’m just saying if you want to do it your way, do it yourself instead of being lazy,” accused a third person.
@viviandluong replied in a comment: Instead, she got $16 worth of grated ginger when the app charged only $2 for her,” she said. “The context was provided, but I just didn’t follow the instructions. I’m not under a lot of pressure about it, but I’m just amazed.”
