Cuba Gooding Jr. is back at work.
After dealing with lawsuits and accusations from multiple women and pleading guilty in 2018 to forcibly groping a waitress at a nightclub, Cuban has moved on and is currently promoting his new Christian film, “The Firing Squad.”
“Extra’s” Carlos Gurría spoke to Cuba about the film and the dark times he experienced over the years.
Faith has got Cuba through some tough times, he said, “This is me, I know that I’m here for a reason, and as long as I do what I do and I’m good at what I do and I’m passionate about what I do, God’s will will be done.”
Gooding took responsibility for his actions, referencing past instances where he’d found himself in legal trouble: “We’re dealing with accountability, with what’s appropriate and what’s accessible. I’ve walked my path and I’ve understood that there are things and people and reactions in society that are changing… Life is about adapting… I come into contact with all kinds of people because people find me approachable to them. From people who adore you to people who resent you and people who find you offensive. And you have to learn that as you walk this path, you have to remain neutral.”
“You have to be mindful of your intentions when it comes to interpreting what’s happening to you and what you’re being exposed to,” Gooding stressed. “You have to take responsibility for your actions, and I have! People are saying positive things and negative things, but I can’t control that.”
In May, Cuba was embroiled in a new scandal when music producer Lil Rod named Cuba as a co-defendant in a sexual assault lawsuit against Sean Diddy Combs, allegations that the rapper strongly denies.
Cuban didn’t mind, calling it the “most ridiculous thing ever,” adding, “Welcome to celebrity! Welcome to my world.”
Gooding said her world is now filled with faith, which is helping her heal.
In response to haters who might criticize Cuba for exploiting his faith, he commented, “You can’t please the people all the time, that’s the old saying. But the people who want to celebrate artistry, that’s my job, that’s my only mission in life.”
“The Firing Squad” will inspire audiences with its inspiring story of faith and salvation even in life’s darkest moments.
“This is a true story of Americans who went to Indonesia, got caught up in drugs, ended up in an Indonesian prison and sentenced to death. You literally get to see the journey that these young Americans go through, and I get to walk them through their journey,” Cuba said.
The Firing Squad will be released on August 2nd.
