Tacoma’s Margo Hass Klein joined Compass this week, the company said. She is the latest in a series of Caldwell Bunker agents to withdraw for Compass this year.
In the latest in a series of defections from Caldwell Banker to Compass, Washington star agent Margo Hus-Klein departed from the former to the latter this week.
Based in the Tacoma area, Klein has worked at Caldwell Banker Bain for the past 23 years, according to his LinkedIn page. Her Compass statement further stated that she began her career in 1977 and that she was “widely recognized as one of Tacoma’s most knowledgeable industry veterans.”
The statement also said Klein was “the top performing agent for Caldwell Banker in Washington State, according to MLS data.”
Expressing her excitement about the move in a statement, she said, “Embark on the next chapter of my career with an unparalleled agent-focused, end-to-end technology platform and vibrant, collaborative culture that characterizes Compass. I’m excited about it,” he said.
While Klein’s hiring is in itself a notable addition to Compass, she is just the latest Caldwell Banker agent to switch sides this year, the statement said. Compass has hired a total of 47 agent teams from the old company since January, according to a statement. Of her 47, five are former employees of the company, who Compass calls “Winbacks,” or “boomerang” agents.
The statement attributes the success of these various recruiting efforts to Compass’ corporate culture and its technology platform.
Besides Klein, notable teams acquired by Compass this year include Boston-based Brigitte Petroselli’s team, Court Petroselli-Coopersmith, Florida-based Logan Cruz, and Southern California’s Megan Majid. , Bay Area-based Jonathan Balog, and Connecticut-based Deirdre McGovern.
Compass President of Growth and Communications, Rory Golod, said in a statement: “The decision to join Compass speaks volumes to the value we provide through our collaborative culture, cutting-edge technology and forward-thinking leadership,” said the agent and team.
The move from Coldwell Banker to Compass came at a time of intense competition for agency acquisition. Compass has always made hiring a major part of its business, sometimes to the dismay of its rivals, but market shifts last year raised the bar. Most observers expect ranks across agents to shrink amid the market downturn, meaning brokerage firms are now competing for a smaller talent pool.
Therefore, agent count is now a closely watched metric as the industry seeks to pinpoint who is weathering the market shifts most soberly. Many brokerage firms have also been busy promoting their boomerang agents in recent weeks.
Real estate analyst Mike Delpreet looked at agent numbers last month and found that startup low-fee brokerage firms tended to add the most agents late last year and early this year. The Real Brokerage and eXp Realty were the biggest winners in DelPrete’s analysis.
Compass experienced a net decline in agent numbers during that period, a first for the company, but a smaller decline than experienced by other large traditional model brokers. Keller-Williams has the biggest loss by agents in this analysis, followed by RE/MAX and Anywhere, the latter of which is Caldwell Banker’s parent company.
The battle between these companies to get more distributors has made production even more important, with companies in particular competing not only for numbers, but also for top producers like Klein. means that
The next big public release of agency numbers for large companies is during the second quarter earnings season, which usually runs from late July to early August. On the other hand, however, Compass is celebrating the addition of Klein.
“We are thrilled to welcome Margot to the Compass family in Tacoma,” said Chris Nelson, Northwest Regional Vice President for Compass, while Klein added, “A highly qualified Compass agent authority dedicated to serving Washington. I joined a group,” he added.
