Nashville, Tennessee (WSMV) – While CMA Fest is a huge music event, it also raises a lot of money for music education.
A portion of the event’s proceeds will go to the CMA Foundation, which focuses on funding music education programs nationwide, including Distinguished Music Teacher Awards.
Mandy Funderburke is a two-time winner and orchestra teacher at Meigs Academic Magnet School in Nashville.
“It was definitely very challenging, surprising and humbling to be chosen among so many educators,” said Funderburke, aka “Mrs. Funderburke.” says Mr. She’s having fun,” she said.
The prize is $5,000, half of which will go to the instructor and the other half to the classroom.
“Classrooms are always in need of things, whether it’s musical instruments or not,” said Funderburke.

Since its inception in 2011, CMA Fest has raised approximately $29 million for the Foundation. About $11 million of that was donated to Metro He Nashville Public Schools.
