Cillian Murphy celebrated his Oscar nomination with a cup of tea and a slice of cake.
The 47-year-old star won his first Academy Award for his role as J. Robert Oppenheimer in Oppenheimer, and when he received the news, he enjoyed a low-key moment toasting the news with his parents and wife. That’s what it means. Yvonne McGuinness.
He told Variety magazine: “Thankfully, I live in a time zone where I don’t have to wake up at 5 a.m. That was already planned for me.
“We had a few days off and stayed home and it was really, really fun.
“I’m actually at my parents’ house in Cork city. I was with my parents and my wife today, which was really nice.
“We had a cup of tea and a piece of cake. It was very good. My mother made a sponge cake. It was very delicious.”
Cillian joked that he was planning to have his mom bake him more cakes ahead of the Oscars ceremony on March 10.
When asked if he would have a snack as no food would be served at the event, he replied, “Maybe I’ll bring my mother’s sponge cake in my wife’s handbag.”
The Irish actor said he was “absolutely honored” to have been nominated and admitted he was surprised by the high acclaim for the film, which won a total of 13 awards.
He said, “Words don’t do it justice. I don’t think I can say anything superlative at this point. I’m really honored and a little overwhelmed. But most of all, I’m proud of this movie and I’m proud of what the film accomplished.” so much.
“It exceeded all of our expectations as we worked on this film.
“People come up to me on the street all the time and say, ‘I saw the movie five times.’
“And they’re older guys, they’re young guys, they’re boys and girls. It’s crazy. And for us to be recognized by the academy the way we have been, it’s kind of amazing. That’s the thing.”
