Many Americans were probably surprised when they learned that two Chinese citizens, Yunnkin Jiang and Zunyong Liu, were accused of trying to smuggle a fungus known as a “potential agroterrorism weapon” into the United States.
When the Cold War with the Soviet Union ended, many in the United States were convinced that China was not a threat. Beijing is heading towards democracy, open markets and liberalism. Nonsense. In fact, China clearly aims to replace us as the world’s major economy and military force.
They trade with us on unfair terms, manipulate currency, force us to steal or steal technology, and create a big trade deficit for us through forced partnership agreements with American companies that focus on fraudulent or short-term profits.

It is no secret that China is spying on us. We certainly spy on them, but they have a great advantage in visiting their large residents and Western diasporas, but we don’t have a counterpart.
Currently, there are around 280,000 Chinese students in the United States, while there are fewer than 1,000 American students in China. There are approximately 100,000 Americans in China and China is the third largest immigrant group in the United States, with over 2.4 million people.
China’s 2017 National Intelligence Act requires that “all organizations and citizens will support, support and cooperate with the efforts of national intelligence reporting.” China has a huge diaspora population in the West, from students to permanent residents, and can target spying and bullying. Like the Cubans and Russians, they fed Americans with no ethnic ties with their country to spy on them.
In March 2024, illegal Chinese foreigners wandered the Marine Corps Base in Twentynin Palms, California. He was caught, but he still took security at our biggest marine base. The Wall Street Journal has been counting these “innocent” cases of Chinese people legally and illegally, and has been wandering or taking photos of sensitive US government sites in recent years.

A hot war with China over the next decade is not an impossible scenario. They prepare it, but our military is lagging behind in recruitment, equipment and technology. If a conflict occurs, China will fill our hands with the theatres of conflict, given the rapid expansion in the navy and air force. What might China do within the US to support their athletic efforts on the ground?
Here, it takes only a small portion of the Chinese here to cause serious damage. In addition to permanent residents, students and visitors, when I finally saw the figures on this, there were over 25,000 Chinese citizens who were criminally convicted of China for refusing to return to them.

In 2024, 78,701 Chinese citizens entered the United States illegally, or during that time. So far, more than 22,000 Chinese citizens have entered illegal this fiscal year.
In March 2024, I was seen on a DHS charter bus getting off the alien at a San Diego bus stop. I saw GPS tracking the GPS worn by Eastern Europeans and Central Asians, but I saw nothing in the Chinese. Unless they are caught committing a crime in the meantime, almost all of them will roam freely until their immigration cases are concluded for years to come.
China is threatening our farmers and our food supply. The state needs to step up
Potential assets across the country have allowed China to target critical infrastructure such as water, electricity and the Internet. They can also deploy designed pathogens against humans that can cause worse damage than Covid-19.
Furthermore, they were able to try to destroy crops in the heart of agriculture. This uses the Bioweapon carried by Jian and Liu to cause “head blight,” a grain crop disease.
We need to take this threat seriously. For generations, the screening of Chinese students, businesses, products, cultural exchanges, and all other interactions with the US is too loose and overly trusted.

The Chinese were the top foreign buyers of US commercial real estate in 2020, and in 2021, the Chinese owner owned 384,000 acres in the US, using a shell company to blur the owner’s Chinese origins. Chinese individuals and groups are also looking to buy or buy land near US military facilities in several states.
However, the Biden administration dialed down or cancelled the Justice Department’s efforts in 2021 “to protect China.” At the same time, the Biden administration “simplified the process of reviewing China’s illegal immigration,” according to a 2024 hearing before the House of Representatives’ Homeland Security Committee.
During the Cold War, we did not buy large lands in Russia, control important industries, control the supply chain of raw materials, or openly make citizens access to schools and markets. Why do we make China?

Customs and border protection inspectors did an amazing job catching fungal needles hidden in haystacks. You need a competent, motivated, fully funded Department of Homeland Security. While there certainly is room for reductions and restructuring in the State Department, Secretary Marco Rubio would be wise to maintain experienced professionals who work to limit access to our sensitive technology, protect America’s intellectual property, and properly reject visiting students and researchers.
It is in past times that we deal with this threat.
