Chelsea have accused supporters of chanting about the Hillsborough disaster in Tuesday’s goalless draw with Liverpool.
During the first half at Stamford Bridge, some of the home support could be heard chanting “murderers” and “always victims”.
The Football Association said in November it was concerned about the frequent use of offensive chants about the Hillsborough disaster.
97 Liverpool fans lost their lives in the 1989 tragedy.
Chelsea said in a club statement after the game:
“Hateful chants do not exist in football. We apologize to anyone who was offended by them.”
Liverpool also demanded the chants be stopped. In response to Chelsea’s statement, they wrote: For them this must stop. ”
The Premier League said it was considering addressing the issue as a priority.
“The Premier League condemns the tragic chants heard during tonight’s match between Chelsea and Liverpool,” read a statement issued by the Premier League on Tuesday night. We continue to treat it as an issue and try to prioritize it.”
The Football Association had this to say on the matter in November:
“These chants are highly offensive and deeply upsetting to families, friends and communities affected by these devastating events and we strongly condemn this action. , to support clubs and fans in their efforts to eradicate such behavior from the game.
“We also support the excellent work of survivor groups that engage with football stakeholders and help educate people about the harmful and lasting effects these horrifying chants can have.”
