Former lightweight UFC champion Charles Oliveira will fight again on May 6th. Did the Bronx announce on Instagram that they will fight Benir Dariush at UFC 288 at an unannounced location?
Aljamain Sterling will defend his UFC bantamweight championship against former double champion Henry Cejudo, but the bout will likely serve as the card’s co-main event.
“It’s official now,” Oliveira wrote online. “Lightweight lions are hungry and ready to hunt.”
The October event UFC 280 was Oliveira’s last fight inside the Octagon. In that fight for the unclaimed UFC lightweight championship, he lost to Islam Makhachev, who submitted him in the second round.
After Oliveira failed to weigh in his title defense against Justin Gaethje at UFC 274, the belt was now claimed by a competitor. Prior to that, he made a successful title defense at UFC 269 against Dustin Poirier. He defeated Michael Chandler by knockout at UFC 262 to win the championship belt. He currently holds the number one spot in the lightweight division.
Little known, Dalish has an unbeaten streak of eight games dating back to 2018. In the course of that streak, he defeated Drew Dover, Frank Camacho, and Drucker Klose.
His most recent victory was at UFC 280, where he defeated Mattheus Gamlotte and won by unanimous decision. At heavyweight, Dalish occupies his fourth spot behind Justin Gaethje, Dustin Poirier and Oliveira.
