Extra spoke with Channing Tatum at the New York premiere of “Fly Me to the Moon.”
He spoke about his chemistry with co-star Scarlett Johansson and how working with his fiancee Zoe Kravitz in her directorial debut “Blink Twice” strengthened their bond.
Tatum said of Scarlett, “She’s like a sister in a way. I know this is a love story, but like I said before, I think we got along really well… I think we just have similar life experiences. She has an older brother and I have a younger sister. I think from the very first moment we started dating, we teased each other and really respected each other.”

He continued, “I’ve seen her work and, as you know, she’s a movie star. That’s one of the main reasons I wanted to do this movie – I wanted to work with her. I got on set on the first day and I was like, ‘Oh, it’s pretty much what I thought it would be.’ She’s so smart, so beautiful, so talented and like a punky little sister that you just want to mess with all the time. She’s a 10 out of 10 in every way.”
Channing also stars with Johansson’s husband, Colin Jost, who makes a cameo appearance in the film.
“I’d love to spend more time with him, but everyone wants to spend time with him,” Tatum said. “He works too much to spend time with anyone. I only get to see him when I’m at work. Me and Zoe go to SNL and hang out a little bit, so I get to see him then and after. He’s so busy, it’s hard. I’d love to have a bromance with him.”

Channing also gushed about working with Kravitz in “Blink Twice,” saying, “Working with a partner really – and I know a lot of people are afraid of that – was something that bonded us in a way. We just started to grow a little bit right before we started shooting, and then it was like, ‘Okay, let’s do this.’ That’s what bonded us.”
He continued, “I don’t look at creating or film in general as just a movie or a story. We just wake up every day and think about how we create our lives. When you can create with someone, that’s the only dating advice I would give to someone… If you have a partner and you’re thinking, ‘Is this the right person for me?’ Find the hardest project you can come up with together. Build a room, paint a room, create some kind of creative project. Not only do you get through it, but make sure you both enjoyed it. Because it’s going to be hard. Sometimes it’s hard. If you don’t look at each other and think, ‘Oh, this is really hard right now,’ that’s what brings you together instead of dividing you two. That’s the path.”
And could we see him in a 23 Jump Street movie alongside Jonah Hill?
Channing said, “I’m excited to see it happen. I was talking about it tonight with Tom Rothman. The hard part is, when I finished the second one, I said I wasn’t going to do a third one because I thought the second one might be better than the first one, which is unusual.”
He continued, “Then the idea was born, the script was written, and in my opinion, the script was the perfect script. … We tried to change the script, but for some reason it just didn’t work. We tried to change it and make it different, but it just wasn’t as good as the first one. Hopefully Tom can work it out for us. We literally just talked about it on the carpet tonight.”
“Fly Me to the Moon” will be in theaters on July 12th.
