Country singer Carrie Underwood handled a technical glitch like a pro at President Donald Trump’s inauguration on Monday.
Underwood was scheduled to perform “America the Beautiful” with a military choir, but the audio cut out, forcing Underwood to take matters into his own hands.
“You know what I’m saying, please help me here,” Carey told the crowd, which included former President Joe Biden and former Vice President Kamala Harris, before singing a cappella.
Last week, it was announced that Carey would perform at the inauguration.
“I love this country and was honored to be asked to sing at the inauguration and to be a small part of this historic event,” Carey said in a statement. I am humbled to answer this call at a time when we must all come together in a spirit of unity and look to the future. ”
Despite some criticism, “The View” co-host Whoopi Goldberg defended Underwood’s decision to appear.
Whoopi said, “I stand behind her. If I believe I have the right to decide to perform somewhere, I believe they have the same right.”
For many years, Underwood kept his political affiliations secret. In 2019 she said: guardian“No one wins. It’s crazy. Everyone tries to summarize everything and put a ribbon on it like it’s black and white. And it’s not like that.”
