The majority (93%) of the 1,626 full-time frontline workers surveyed expressed a desire to continue learning skills on the job, and 87% were confident in their ability to learn new skills . Such opportunities also persuade employers to stay with them longer, with 64% expecting to stay with them for at least six years and 44% extending their employment for another 10 years or more.
Only 9% of employees surveyed were not interested in career advancement, with the remainder looking to upskill in their current role (26%) or move to another department or role within the company. (20%) wanted to pursue a managerial or supervisory position. (19%) or promoted to executive/executive level (18%).
Despite these ambitions, many field employees feel that their companies are not helping them advance. More than 3 in 10 (32%) think their employers don’t invest enough in their development, and 25% say they have no choice but to develop their knowledge and skills themselves . Almost half (48%) recognize the disparity in training opportunities between frontline and corporate employees.
