UPDATE — In Torrance, California, Pacific Coast Highway along Ventura County’s south coast remains closed overnight due to shoulder washout, but hopes to open 24/7 by the end of this week I believe.
The ocean, high waves and high tide eroded the shoulder between the southbound lanes and the ocean, increasing the height of the spill from 15 feet to 100 feet.
They plan to use K-rail to shut off the entire area in question and use the remaining portion of the roadway to reconfigure the lanes to allow two lanes of traffic in both directions.
If this temporary solution works, roads could be open to traffic day and night as early as midweek.
Until then, it will be closed overnight until at least 8 a.m. the next morning, but possibly later depending on sea conditions.
Even if the roads are open 24/7, speed limits will remain below 55 mph, depending on worker safety concerns.
The area between Las Pozas Road and Sycamore Canyon Road is closed overnight after the southbound shoulder was partially washed away due to erosion from the storm.
