Animal Science, Food Science, and Poultry Science students from Bumper University attended the American Meat Science Association’s Inter-Meat Conference.
College students from several faculties at the Dale Bumpers College of Agriculture, Food and Life Sciences attended the recent American Meat Science Association Reciprocal Meat Conference in St. Paul, Minnesota, winning a combined three awards and three top-five places.
Morgan Denzer received the Graduate Knife Teaching Award. Taylor Looper, Undergraduate Academic Achievement Award. Elizabeth Neal, C. Boyd Ramsey RMC Scholar Award.
Neil placed 2nd in the Master’s Program category of the Graduate Research Poster Competition, and Ruper placed 3rd in the Undergraduate Research Poster Competition.
Ashley Rivera Pitti finished second in the “Iron Chef” contest.
The Meat Science Quiz Bowl team placed 12th out of 36 teams. Competing team members were Looper, Eva Berryhill, Miguel Montero and Jimena Rodriguez. The team was coached by Neil. Other team members included Pitti and Cayson Frisbee.
Berryhill, Looper, Neal, Pitti, and Rodriguez major in animal science. Denzer and Frisbee, Food Science. and Montero of poultry science.
Other student presenters included Pitti, Rodriguez and Sarah Shoup in Animal Science and Sarah Johnson in Poultry Science.
Faculty members also gave presentations at various sessions. Her girlfriend Kelly Vierck, Assistant Professor of Animal Science, gave a presentation on “How to use ePoster”. Casey Owens, Novus International Professor of Poultry Science, on Poultry Meat Quality: Past, Present and Future Issues. and Derrico Sechabrata, Assistant Professor of Meat Science in Animal Science, gave a lecture on “Tackling the Transition from Student to Academic Professional”.
AMSA fosters community and professional development among individuals who create and apply the science to efficiently provide safe, high-quality meat, defined as red meat (beef, pork, lamb, poultry, seafood and other controlled species).
