Ernest Brown IV is a 6-foot-5, 300-pound defensive tackle who originally entered the NFL as a fifth-round pick (174th overall) by the Los Angeles Rams in the 2021 NFL Draft. Brown has appeared in 12 career games with the Rams, starting three and recording 14 tackles (one tackle for loss). He spent significant time on the Los Angeles practice squad and briefly signed with San Francisco in February of last year, but was waived last May before training camp began.

Brown joins a competitive room with key players. defensive tackle Vita Baer, Kariya Kanshi, Logan Hall, Greg Gaines, Will Gholston. Brown will compete for the sixth defensive tackle spot in training camp and the preseason against Mike Green, CJ Brewer, Eric Banks, Lewal Ugaku and undrafted free agent Judge Culpepper.
The Aubrey, Texas, native played collegiately at Northwestern University (2017-20). He played in 40 career games in college, recording 70 tackles (18.5 tackles for loss), nine passes defensed, seven sacks, two fumble recoveries and one forced fumble.
Laird, 28, has spent the past two years on Tampa Bay’s practice squad after entering the league as an undrafted free agent out of the Miami Dolphins in 2019.
