After releasing 2022 fourth-round pick Jake Camarda and his replacement. trenton gill The Bucks will try out their third punter this season this Sunday against the Las Vegas Raiders. Jack Browning, a rookie from San Diego State University, will make his NFL debut. And there’s quite a bit to like about the old Aztecs.
“He can generate momentum. He can put it where it needs to be placed,” Bucs head coach Todd Bowles said of him in a recent press conference.
#Bucks Coach Todd Bowles says P. Jack Browning has a lot of talent.

A look at Bucks punter Jack Browning by the numbers
beyond him 2 years with the Aztecs, Jack Browning punted 122 times for 5,573 yards, averaging 45.7 yards per punt and 42.2 yards net. His career long was 66 yards, with 56 punts inside the opposing team’s 20-yard line. Nine more punts resulted in touchbacks, but only 33% of his boots were returned.
Looking at this year’s overall NFL numbers, here’s how he ranks in various categories.
- T-28th in yards per punt
- 17th in net yards per punt
- 8th in punt percentage within 20
- 5th lowest punt return percentage
Although his average yards per punt isn’t spectacular, Browning’s talent lies in mitigating risk through returns and making his net average very close to gross. His 3.5 yards difference between gross and net average in college would rank him second among NFL punters this year behind New Orleans’ Lou Hedley.
And that doesn’t mean he can’t hit deep shots, as evidenced by the fact that he hit multiple shots of 60 yards or more in two seasons in college, following in the footsteps of “punt god” Matt Arraiza.
Jack Browning According to Experts
I asked experts in the world of punter analysis about Browning and what Bucks fans can expect from their newest specialist. The team behind the said. That’s the path he took to get to his first matchup with the Bucks.
Best punting performance ever?
I recently wrote about Bucs left tackle Tristan Wirfs’ chances of blocking this year in Week 13 against the Panthers. And as great as his single-player performance is, Jack Browning might just match him for the entire game. On September 11, 2022, Browning recorded perhaps the best single game by a punter in college football history.
Jack Browning tonight:
– 6 punts, 47.5 average, In20 6, In10 5, In5 4 (Average position on ISU field – 4.8)
– 1v1 FG
– 5-on-5 PAT
– 7 KOs, average 65.7, 6 TB (only non-TB got when kicking from 20 after Aztec penalty)
– 1 rush, 26 yards on fake punt— Jamie McConeghy (@McConeghySDSU) September 11, 2022
One tweet covering this historic feat can’t do it justice. 4 and a half minute video To properly record this glorious feat.
multifaceted jack browning
In addition to punting, Jack Browning also handled kicking duties for San Diego State. In 2022-2023, he completed 35 of 47 attempts. This is nowhere near the Chase McLaughlin level of accuracy that Bucs fans are accustomed to, but it does provide Tampa Bay with better insurance than the typical punter. And Browning has the legs to hit from downtown.

And given the Bucs’ willingness to run fake punts this year, Browning could help in that department as well.
I know Halloween isn’t until Monday, but @jackbrowning131 I’ve been working on some tricks since I got here.

The Bucks don’t need a panacea for punters. They need to be consistently competent. Jake Camarda couldn’t be consistent. And Trenton Gill struggled with that ability.

That might eventually happen to the Bucks, perhaps thanks to Browning.
