Pewter Report’s Scott Reynolds answers your questions. @PewterReport This week’s Twitter account can be found at Bucs Mailbag. Submit your questions to the Bucs Mailbag weekly via Twitter using the hashtag #PRMailbag. Here are the Bucks questions we chose to answer in this week’s issue.
Question: If the Bucks don’t draft one of the “big four” (Jared Vers, Laiatu Latu, Jackson Powers-Johnson, Graham Burton) in the first round, who else will they target? Most likely to be a skill position player? Or trade back?
answer: This is a great question, and I’m sure Jason Richt and the Bucs team are working through a bunch of these scenarios in the weeks leading up to the NFL Draft. By selecting late in the draft, the Bucks need to prepare for multiple possibilities.

That includes all four players you mentioned (Florida State edge rusher Jared Vers, UCLA edge rusher Laiatu Latu, Oregon center Jackson Powers-Johnson, Duke center guard, This includes the possibility that Graham Burton will be taken off the board by the time he plays. clock. So, will the Bucks stick with the No. 26 pick or trade back?
It depends on how many players the Bucks have left in their initial pool of players to select with their first pick. The last time Richt was traded back in the first round in 2022, when the team was available with the 27th overall pick, defensive tackle Devonte Wyatt, safety Louis Cine and defensive tackle Logan Hall were All were able to participate.
Tampa Bay traded away to Jacksonville in the first round, and Jacksonville acquired the No. 1 overall pick in the second round with the 33rd pick. Wyatt was selected by Green Bay at No. 28, and the Vikings traded up to take Cine at No. 32. The Bucks were left with a hole.
In 2018, the Bucs traded back from No. 7 to No. 12 to acquire a second-round pick from Buffalo, but still acquired Vita Vea, a player they had targeted at defensive tackle. So Richt has experience trading back in the first round, and I wouldn’t rule it out this year unless the team hits one or two of their top goals.
If it’s not an interior offensive lineman or edge rusher, the Bucs could draft another wide receiver or cornerback in the first round. As I wrote about in SR’s Fab 5 on Friday, another receiver could see enough time on the field as a WR3 this year and could eventually replace Mike Evans or Chris Godwin. Eventually, another cornerback will replace the often-injured Jamel Dean, who could protect the Bucs in case he gets injured again this year.
Question: Who is the Bucks’ most likely first round pick?
answer: Tampa Bay picked very late in the draft at No. 26, so the Bucs are counting on a team to pick ahead of them in the draft. Acquiring a third-round pick from Detroit in the Carlton Davis III trade gives general manager Jason Richt additional ammunition to trade for players he wants within reason.

As mentioned in the first Bucs mailbag question, for most Tampa Bay fans, the “Big Four” are Florida State edge rusher Jared Verse, UCLA edge rusher Laiatu Latu, and Oregon State edge rusher Jared Verse. Center Jackson Powers-Johnson and Duke University guard center Graham Burton are believed to be the two players. Finding another pass rusher and starting left guard or upgrading at center seems to be Tampa Bay’s biggest needs.
I think the Bucks would be overjoyed to land any of these four players, so let’s start there. If those four are taken at No. 26, or if the team decides to trade down and they come off the board at pick time, Tampa Bay will be able to pick up players like Florida State’s Keon Coleman and LSU’s Brian Thomas. They may draft a wide receiver. Cornerbacks like Iowa’s Cooper DeJean and Clemson’s Nate Wiggins.
The Bucs held formal interviews with Coleman, Thomas and Wiggins at the NFL Scouting Combine and will have Coleman participate in the top-30 visit. It will be interesting to see how the second half of the first round goes. Because that’s when predictability goes out, trades become more likely, and teams start making some surprising moves.
Question: I’m going to go a little out of left field here, Scott. Is the Bucks front office on the lookout for players coming through the International Player Pathway? If so, I think they might offer one of them a spot on the practice squad mosquito?
answer: good question. For those who don’t know, the International Player Pathway Program involves his group of 11 athletes from around the world and his five specialists from England and Ireland, according to an NFL media press release. Masu. IPP began in 2017 as a way to expand the NFL’s reach around the world with the idea of enrolling more international players onto his NFL roster.

The selected athletes come from a variety of sporting backgrounds including rugby, Gaelic football, Australian football and athletics. Former New York Giants defensive end Osi Umenyiora is spearheading the NFL’s Africa program, which will focus solely on European countries as the NFL looks to expand its reach around the world. It’s not a thing.
Since its inception, 37 international players have signed with NFL teams (assigned, drafted, or signed as free agents), and currently 18 IPP athletes are on NFL rosters. Five players, Jordan Mailata, Jakob Johnson, Efe Obada, Samis Reyes, and David Bada, have been on the active rosters of the Philadelphia Eagles, Las Vegas Raiders, and Washington Commanders since the program’s inception in 2017. Names are listed.
There is no information that the Bucks are necessarily targeting any specific players in this year’s IPP class. But the fact that training takes place at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., an hour’s drive south of Tampa, and the recent pro day was held at the University of South Florida in Tampa, suggests the Bucks will always have scouts on hand. It tells the story. Close the tabs for these athletes. If a team believes a player can help improve the roster, Tampa Bay will make an effort to sign that player.
Question: Why doesn’t Bayley Adams deem James Wilder worthy of the Bucks Ring of Honor? It seemed like a huge disrespect. Was that intended? Also, do you think Hardy Nickerson should go in front of Simeon Rice?
answer: For years, Pewter Report has championed the cause of former Tampa Bay running back James Wilder being inducted into the Bucs’ Ring of Honor.I wrote about this in detail in my book SR’s Fab5 column and reported about it in front. Same goes for the late great Mark Cook. But I don’t think that’s in the cards for Wilder.I think something must have happened that affected his candidacy, and I think that’s why Bailey Adams left him off the list.

Remember, the team calls this Ring of Honor for a reason. It’s not Ring of Record. Jon Gruden won the franchise’s first Super Bowl and remains the winningest head coach in Tampa Bay history. However, he was removed from the Bucks’ Ring of Honor after some of his past offensive emails he sent to former Bucks and Redskins general manager Bruce Allen saw the light of day.
If I had to make the decision, I’d probably put Simeon Rice in next. He is a Super Bowl champion and two-time Pro Bowler with the Bucs. Without induction into the Bucks Ring of Honor, he basically has no chance of being inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. His sack numbers and accomplishments are worthy of induction into the Hall of Fame, but for some reason he is not considered a legitimate candidate. Having his name engraved on Raymond James Stadium would definitely help his cause.
Hardy Nickerson, who along with Tony Dungy laid the foundation for the team’s success, will be next in line. Before John Lynch, Warren Sapp and Derrick Brooks, there was Nickerson, who was the captain of the Bucks’ ship. He brought attitude and All-Pro play to Tampa Bay and helped Lynch, Sapp, and Brooks emerge as the leaders of the defense.
I think Tom Brady and Gene Deckerhoff need to go in next to Rice and Nickerson. I would love to see the Bucks reinduct the Bucks Ring of Honor Hall of Fame this season after a year off. By the time these four are inducted, the next likely inductee will be the legendary Lavonte David in 2028, followed by future Hall of Famer Mike Evans in 2029.
Question: In your opinion, were all the new NFL rules necessary? If not, who could have waited?
answer: Generally speaking, I have no problem with the new NFL rules. I’m not a fan of the rule change banning hip drop tackles. I think this is largely due to chance, but it will probably result in more missed tackles and missed tackles. The league has no problem with this. Not only do leagues want more points and points, they also want to give running backs, wide receivers, and tight ends more yards for fantasy football and gambling purposes.
The biggest change is the kickoff rule. Kickoffs were once one of the most exciting plays in football, but they collided at full speed with players sprinting 40 yards downfield, sometimes resulting in concussion attacks. But kickoffs were all but wiped out by a glut of touchbacks when the league moved up the kickoff spot years ago.
With this new rule adopted by the XFL, there may not be a sudden spike in kickoff returns for touchdowns. But from now on, kick returns will finally increase, and the team will at least have the opportunity to do so. Here are the details of the new kick return rules:
