question: How do you rank Todd Bowles among the coaches the Bucs will face this year? Will including the entire staff change the rankings?

answer: I think Todd Bowles made some progress as a head coach last year, and the fact that the Bucs started 4-7, finished 5-1, and were able to win their third straight district title. , which he should earn. This is the credit. Bowles also had some great game plans in back-to-back games, including the season finale against Carolina and the Wild Card playoff win against Philadelphia. The Bucks defeated the Panthers 9-0 in Week 18 and started the postseason by defeating the Eagles 32-9 at home.
This is a difficult question to answer. Because while I think Dan Quinn is a very good head coach, Washington still doesn’t have enough depth. Detroit’s Dan Campbell’s Lions went 2-0 against Bowles’ Buccaneers last year, while Bowles’ Tampa Bay is 0-2 over the past two seasons against San Francisco and Kyle Shanahan.
Andy Reid and the Chiefs’ offense have gotten the best of Bowles and his defense in two of the three matchups since 2020, but Tampa Bay won the most important game in Super Bowl LV. Bowles and the Bucs have had success against the Saints even during Bruce Arians’ three years as Tampa Bay’s head coach.
Instead of ranking Bowles and his staff compared to other teams’ coaching staffs, which is very difficult because there are so many variables, I’d say he’s more likely to be at the helm of Arians in 2024 than in 2022. I just want to say that he has become a better coach. . It remains to be seen how much he will improve this season, but I am hopeful. I really like the new assistants he’s brought in, but a head coach is usually only as good as his staff. I think new offensive coordinator Liam Cohen has a chance to be better than Dave Canales, and it was Bowles’ most important hire of the offseason.
Question: On a scale of 1 to 10, how do you feel about the Tampa Bay training camp roster so far?

answer: I’d give the Bucks’ roster heading into training camp a 7.5, maybe an 8 at this point. Bucs general manager Jason Richt and his personnel staff once again did a great job with the draft, with all of the free agents the team wanted to re-sign this offseason returning to Tampa Bay. So the foundation is here to compete for another NFC South title and build on last year’s nine-win season.
I think the big key to this season from a roster standpoint is a revamped offensive line and a rebuilt secondary. Tampa Bay will have two new starters on the offensive line. Graham Burton will likely replace center Robert Hainsey, and guard will replace the pairing of Matt Feiler and Aaron Stinney from a year ago.
The Bucks are 3 additional newcomers Interior’s offensive line can choose from Sua Opeta, Ben Bredeson and the team’s sixth-round pick Elijah Klein to fill that role. The retooled Interior offensive line will play a big role in not only protecting Baker Mayfield and strengthening the pocket in the passing game, but also opening up holes in the league’s worst rushing attack.
Tampa Bay’s secondary should have three new starters this season. Jordan Whitehead returns to the strong safety spot after two years with the Jets, and Zion McCollum replaces Carlton Davis III at outside cornerback. Tykie Smith, the team’s third-round pick, will compete with rookie Tavierre Thomas to take last year’s starter Christian Isien’s spot at nickelback. This group should generate more takeaways and reduce the amount of yards gained through the air.
Also, finding two capable starting edge rushers from a group that includes YaYa Diaby, Randy Gregory, Joe Tryon-Shoyinka, Chris Braswell, Anthony Nelson, Markees Watts and Jose Ramirez is paramount. If this Bucs does this during training camp and the secondary and interior offensive line work together, Tampa Bay’s roster could be much improved from last year and even become a dark horse contender for the Super Bowl.
question: Are there any players around the building who look like they’ve undergone body modification in the weight room? Guys like Cody Mauch, Robert Hainsey, and Sir Vocea Dennis. especially.

answer: We’ll find out Tuesday as the media will have their first chance to see the OTA at AdventHealth Training Center. It has been difficult to assess physical changes so far, as interviews with the player have been very limited in recent months. We had Sarvosia Dennis on the Pewter Report Podcast a few weeks ago and he looked a little big, which is natural for a sophomore player who is participating full-time in the Bucs’ strength and conditioning program for the first time. That’s it.
Robert Hainsey was briefly seen on video welcoming Graham Burton to the team facility the day after the draft. Heinsey and Tristan Wirfs met Burton in the team cafeteria, and Heinsey appeared to have added some much-needed size in the weight room. Wirfs, on the other hand, looked as big and strong as ever.
We heard that defensive tackle Vita Vea lost some weight this spring and reported to the offseason program in the best shape he’s been in. Vea is one of the players I’m looking forward to competing in Tuesday’s open OTA workout. Logan Hall told me that Via was visibly thinner, but she had no idea how much weight she had lost.
Speaking of Hall, he said he gained about 10 pounds of muscle and size this offseason, growing up to 295 pounds. It will be interesting to see him in addition to guard Cody Mauch. He told me during a locker cleanout in January that he wanted to add more strength and size to his lower body this season to look more like a guard than a tackle. .
question: Will the Creamsicle uniforms make a comeback this season?

answer: It’s a good question, but the Bucks haven’t exactly addressed it yet. Pewter Report asked Bucks co-chairman Joel Glazer if Bucco Bruce exists. A memorable game this season He was not active at the NFL’s annual meeting in Orlando in March.
Considering last year’s game was so well received by the fan base, it’s hard to imagine the Bucks not having a game featuring the nostalgic Creamsicle uniforms. Some fans don’t like the old orange and white uniforms. Because from 1976 until 1996, he is synonymous with losing, as he was worn during a very dark period in the franchise’s history. Of course, it doesn’t help that the Bucks lost 20-6 to the Lions last year, and the team’s record with the Creamsicles since returning in 2009 is now 1-4.
The NFL schedule was just released on Wednesday, May 15th, so the Bucks will likely meet to discuss which games make the most sense to wear them this season. That’s why it wasn’t announced when the schedule was announced last week. My guess is the Eagles game in Week 4. Tampa Bay’s first ever playoff game and postseason victory came in 1979, when the Bucks faced Philadelphia at Tampa Stadium after winning the NFC Central Division. The game has historical relevance and will take place on September 29th at 1pm ET.
Another game that could be interesting is a Week 14 game against the Raiders later in the season on December 8th at 1pm ET. The Raiders’ helmets feature the pirate mascot, and the Bucs also have a Buccoo Blues pirate decal. The Pirates’ clash later in the season will be fun to watch.
