Bucks fans, worry no more.
after that was I recently reported that I will meet with the Jaguars. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Wednesday morning that offensive coordinator Liam Cohen will withdraw from the race for his second head coaching interview and remain in Tampa Bay with a new contract that will make him one of the highest-paid coordinators in the NFL. In a shocking turn of events, Liam Cohen, who was considered the top candidate for the Jaguars’ head coaching job, was no longer considered.
Cohen’s work with the Bucs this year has garnered attention, with Jacksonville interested in his work taking quarterback Baker Mayfield’s game to a new level while revitalizing the run game and offensive line. I was intrigued.
Under him, Tampa Bay was the fourth-highest scoring offense, averaging 29.5 points per game, an unprecedented mark in team history.
Here are each single-season offensive franchise record set this year:
- Completion rate (71.5%)
- Passer rating (106.8)
- Yards per rush (5.3)
- Rushing first down (137)
- Rushing Yards (2,536)
- Third down conversion rate (50.9%)
- Third down conversion (110)
After doing all of this for a year, Cohen was on the fast track to becoming an NFL head coach. Offensively-minded and only 39 years old, he fits the mold of taking over a league where the likes of Kyle Shanahan, Sean McVay and Kevin O’Connell have led teams to renewed success over the past five years. After the Bears hired Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson, the Jaguars appeared to zero in on the former McVay protégé.
With quarterback Trevor Lawrence locked in on a long-term contract and an impressive lineup of weapons around him, led by rookie wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr., they could unlock Lawrence’s potential. It was natural to pursue someone who could. Nevertheless, that didn’t happen, as Cohen became the second offensive coordinator to turn down Jacksonville’s offer after Byron Leftwich did the same in the 2021 offseason.
Keeping Liam Cohen is huge for Baker Mayfield and the Bucks offense.

How does this affect the Bucks?
It’s no surprise that the Glazer family was willing to open their checkbook to pay Liam Cohen whatever they wanted to keep him. Pewter Report’s Scott Reynolds breaks down exactly what’s going on during the season Cohen isn’t going anywhere, and he’s right.
What this means going forward is that the Bucks’ offense will have continuity at the top. Quarterback Baker Mayfield has lacked that throughout his career, and he and other players won’t have to learn a fourth offense for many years. This should bode well for building on a record-setting year and encouraging player development.
If Cohen had left, they would have been at a disadvantage compared to other teams. top assistant coach Probably left with him. This provides certainty and stability for everyone in the building.
After having his most productive and efficient season, Mayfield has a chance to do more of the same in a system that suits his playing style. He completed passes more efficiently than anyone has ever seen, and those numbers put him among the best quarterbacks in the league. The running game was better than anyone expected, led by rookie running back Bucky Irving. But Irving wasn’t the only one contributing to that success.

Cohen brought offensive line coach Kevin Carberry to Tampa Bay, which has developed into one of the best groups in the league. Left tackle Tristan Wirfs has solidified his spot in his new position and is a first-team All-Pro, center Graham Burton has shown promising moments, and the right side of the offensive line is lined up with right guard Cody Mauf and right Tackle Luke Goedeke has grown and progressed.
As a wide receiver, the play-caller has at times relied on his abilities, especially after Mike Evans and Chris Godwin left with injuries midway through the season. The offensive line only played one game, so they remained in good shape. all A season in which he scored fewer than 20 points. He still dialed up how to utilize each player on his team to keep the ball moving.
The Bucks no longer have to worry about losing Liam Cohen, which is truly the best outcome for the organization. This puts Cohen’s head coaching job on hold until next season, during which time he can build something special with head coach Todd Bowles.
