BOYLSTON, Mass. – For the third year, the people of Boylston gathered for the Gobble Wobble 5k.
The runners set out with a goal of raising $8,000 for the Boylston Education Foundation. Each participant also brought nonperishable food for the Boylston Food Pantry.
Organizers said they welcome runners, walkers and wanderers of all types, and that in the first year a professional timing company helped record everyone’s finishing times.
Boylston Education Foundation co-chairs Lisa Kelly and Kara Parr said the funding goes a long way in supporting local schools.
“Things like teacher grant support, enriched curriculum and special projects may not be possible in other ways,” Kelly said. “Our 5K is one of the biggest fundraising events of the year and is a fun, family-friendly event that gets the whole town involved.”
“We also have bingo, which is centered around food and games, so it’s a good way to have some healthy activity in town,” Parr said.
