A contract worker went viral on TikTok after posting a video about a common frustration at work that was shared by employees around the world.
In the clip, TikTok user Lexie Firment (@lexiefirment) says, “The work culture is so funny. It’s like getting yelled at by a 50-year-old woman because you left 5 minutes early.”
In a video posted on March 11, Ferment questions the logic behind sticking to contracted hours at one’s job, especially when all the work is done. she says: “If I’m done with all my work and it’s 3 o’clock, 10, 15 minutes before I’m scheduled to go home, can we have a grown-up conversation?” Can’t you just leave? ”
Ferment goes on to say: “I’m not going to do anything anyway, so I might as well start my commute early. As Lord knows, there’s no affordable housing, so I have to live about 30 minutes away from where I actually work. You can’t do that.”
Since posting, the video has received more than 286,200 views, with other employees sharing similar sentiments in the comments section.

One user wrote, “I hate office life because it’s so passive and aggressive.” Another person shared a similar experience. They said, “Even though I was the top scorer on the team, I was scolded for leaving at 4:55 to avoid traffic and shorten my commute from 30 minutes to 2 hours.” I did.
“I felt this. All I’m going to do is sit here and stare at the wall… why does it matter? Literally a waste of life,” said another.
Some users pointed out the irony of companies closely tracking early retirements but not compensating them for overtime. “If they’re going to track it, can I get paid for the hours I worked beyond my contracted hours??” one user commented.
However, not everyone shared the TikToker’s view, with one commenter suggesting the problem was a lack of communication on Firmen’s part. “Why not let your manager know that you would like to leave early,” they wrote.
“Ladies, you actually have to say this to them. One day I sat them down and told them emphatically that I wasn’t going to treat them like children, and from then on, the job got easier,” another said. the person claimed.
