US Secretary of State Antony Blinken criticised China’s “escalating illegal actions” in the South China Sea at the summit on Saturday, while his Russian counterpart Dmitry Peskov said US plans with ally South Korea to build a nuclear deterrent on the Korean peninsula were stoking fears.
Blinken specifically condemned China’s coast guard’s hostile actions against the Philippines, a U.S. defense treaty ally, in the South China Sea.

Wang told Blinken that while communication remains open between China and the United States, the United States has not let up, but rather intensified, its containment and repression of Beijing.
“Risks facing U.S.-China relations are still accumulating, challenges are growing, and the relationship is at a critical crossroads to halt the decline and achieve stability,” he said, according to a foreign ministry statement.
Russia claims US creates ‘inflammatory atmosphere’

His comments followed comments by Indonesia’s Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi, the world’s largest Muslim-majority country, who said sustainable peace was urgently needed.
Retno also said international law should apply to everyone, alluding to recent rulings by two international courts over Israel’s attacks on Gaza.
“We cannot continue to turn a blind eye to the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza,” Retno said.
Palestinian health officials say fighting has killed more than 39,000 Palestinians in the Gaza Strip since the start of the Israeli invasion, including combatants and non-combatants.
Israeli officials estimate that 14,000 fighters from extremist groups, including Hamas and Islamic Jihad, have been killed or captured, out of an estimated strength of more than 25,000 at the start of the war, which began when Hamas-led militants attacked Israel on Oct. 7, killing 1,200 people and kidnapping 250.

ASEAN issued a statement on Saturday stressing its unity in realizing the peace plan, condemning violence against civilians and calling on all parties in Myanmar to end hostilities and begin dialogue.
ASEAN also welcomed non-specific practical steps to reduce tensions and prevent accidents and miscalculations in the South China Sea, and called on all parties to refrain from actions that could complicate or escalate disputes.
