A woman on TikTok shared that she was considering buying a new BMW, but decided against it after being discriminated against by a salesman.
Tamiaa (@ta.mia.a) said in the caption that the salesman “missed the check for a large commission.” She also said in a text overlay that she had intended to buy her car with cash, but that her salesman was so rude to her that she no longer intended to buy it.
In the one-minute clip, Tamia pans the camera around the BMW’s interior, extolling its many features, including touchscreen functionality, different driving modes, and white leather seats.
Tamia then explains to the salesman what happened. “I won’t buy from here, because [salesman] “I was talking about being so fucking rude…you can’t test drive a car if you haven’t applied,” she said, before going back to praising BMW.
The video received more than 1 million views in six days on social media platforms, with many viewers sharing their thoughts on the incident in the comments.
One user wrote, “Similar to your loss, this happened to me at Toyota.”
“Application??? All they need is a copy of the license for a test drive,” another user said.
“If they won’t let you test drive it, that’s a major red flag,” a third person wrote.
@ta.mia.a He missed out on a big commission check 😂
Unfortunately, Tamiaa’s experience buying a BMW is not an isolated incident. The Daily Dot previously covered another Black TikToker facing similar discrimination at a Porsche dealership.
One person, who claimed to have worked at the dealership, confirmed Tamia’s suspicions about the salesman. They wrote: “I worked at a dealership, and sometimes the sales manager would tell the sales rep, [customer] You know that you can drive a car that is worth a certain amount as long as you don’t run the credit. 9/10 They are 100% profiling and guessing. ”
People also praised Tamia for standing her ground and not handing over her hard-earned cash to a rude salesman.
One commenter said, “That’s exactly how I feel! When I make a big purchase, I do my research beforehand so I can buy it right away. But the rude rep will try to convince me not to buy that day.” Ta.
“I’m so proud of you for walking away,” said another, while a third said: [you] Please value yourself enough to go elsewhere!
