ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. — John Ross, chief operating officer and executive vice president of the Buffalo Bills and Buffalo Sabers, announced Wednesday that he was promoted to the position by owner Terry. He was fired by Mr. Pegula. Kathryn DeAngelo, the Bills’ senior vice president and general counsel, was also fired Wednesday.
Three sources with direct knowledge of the decision speak. The Athletic It was reported that Ross and D’Angelo were romantically involved, and things came to a head on October 8, when the Bills played the Jacksonville Jaguars at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London.
The Bills’ front office structure was such that D’Angelo reported directly to owner Terry Pegula. But Ross had a superior title. Two people close to her said Mr. Ross recommended her for the promotion. D’Angelo was also in charge of human resources. The relationship was therefore considered professionally unethical.
Josh Jurikowski, former senior vice president of finance and operations, has been appointed interim chief operating officer, and longtime soccer operations advisor Jim Oberdorf will serve as general counsel while the company searches for an external replacement. It turns out.
Wednesday’s developments were reminiscent of Bills/Sabres president and managing partner Russ Brandon’s resignation in May 2018. Russ Brandon resigned after an internal investigation found inappropriate working relationships and other work-related issues.
