Naomi Watts and Bill Murray are cooking in the new drama “The Friend.” She plays the writer and teacher who disrupts the comfortable and lonely New York life after her friend and mentor (Murray) dies suddenly and leaves her beloved 150 pounds. Great Dane.

David and Naomi became good friends after helping out her breakout role in the 2001 thriller “Mulholland Drive.”

Murray explained the character’s friendship. “There’s always being coached, creative and professional. At the same time, there’s a personal relationship, it’s denied and unresolved. And when life ends, there are many unanswered questions.
He said, “People get it in our lives. We get it. We say, “God, I want to do it with that person. I wish I didn’t finish it that way. I’d like to talk again.”
Naomi said, “Instead, she is shaking over this huge, oversized creature that rules her life, and lifting everything you know. So, she has to deal with grief while managing this creature…it’s a very unlikely story of how to overcome grief.”
Naomi raves her dog co-star Bin. “I quickly connected with him… I was worried because of his size and strength, and you know, things want to run towards him… he’s so extraordinary.
