Rural America is the backbone of the American economy. Our farmers have fed and fueled our country, acted as good stewards of our land, and represented American identity for generations. , live within their means and support their communities. They never ask for recognition, but the results of their efforts are displayed in every grocery store and meat counter across the country.
But since the start of his administration, President Biden has enacted radical policies, devastated our rural way of life, and imposed ridiculous orders to inject Washington bureaucracy into the heart of the city. It should come as no surprise to the president that his poll numbers plummeted in the Midwest, with only 64% of Iowans disapproving of his accomplishments. He attacks everything that makes our rural communities thrive.
In late 2022, on New Year’s Eve, the Biden administration quietly announced an expanded version of President Obama’s controversial and destructive “Waters of the United States” (WOTUS) rule. His radical Environmental Protection Agency has forced 97% of Iowa’s land and millions of hard-working American farmers to suffer from cumbersome bureaucratic red tape, mountains of paperwork, and unnecessary headaches. exposed to Ironically, for someone who claims to be defending all Americans, President Biden’s disastrous record of targeting America’s family-owned farmers shows otherwise.
As the nation’s second-largest agricultural production district, I represent thousands of families who have farmed the same land for generations, become self-sufficient, protected their farmlands, and lived the American Dream. . These same families who are top conservationists are taking steps every day to support clean water and protect Iowa’s rivers, lakes, ponds and streams. From installing buffer strips and bioreactors to planting cover crops, our farmers are practicing common-sense conservation practices that the federal government deliberately ignores to keep our water clean and drinkable. to keep
Farmers, ranchers accuse Biden of ‘attacking farmers’ over EPA water rules
Unfortunately, when there was an opportunity to reverse course and stand up for farmers, President Biden turned his back on Hartland, deregulating WOTUS and eliminating producer bureaucracy submitted by House Republicans elected to reject the proposed bipartisan resolution. And we will return local control of America’s farmland to our farmers.
President Biden also promised never to raise taxes on American families earning less than $400,000 a year. In a budget of nearly $7 trillion a year, he proposes scrapping a vital tax system that farmers rely on to pass their farms on to the next generation. Strengthening the foundations that protect family farmers from paying large taxes in the tragic event of an owner’s death is essential for our rural communities and agricultural economies. This is the crux of President Biden’s failed tax policy. He raises one hand, vowing never to raise taxes on the middle class, and signs a foreclosure paperwork on a family farm with the other.

President Biden’s veto of a bipartisan resolution to overturn the invasive WOTUS rule, and his ludicrous plan to tax and exterminate American farmers, is the reason why he wants rural America. It represents a clear example of ruthless disregard. Born and raised in rural Iowa, I know the devastating consequences of federal excesses and tax increases on our communities. This is the strategy Washington DC bureaucrats use to bully American farmers and impose the Green New Deal agenda on our country.
Until President Biden recognizes these same consequences and abandons this failed ruse, his reputation will stink as much as the legislative manure he is pushing on rural America.
