Karim Benzema is the only footballer to represent the league at the FIFA The Best Award, even though Cholo Simeone has been nominated for best coach.
Benzema puts pressure on the Ballon d’Or. They filter the list by Ballon d’Or results.
FIFA has announced the list of nominees for The Best Awards, which will take place online on January 17th. The winner of the prestigious award will be announced that day, and the public will be able to vote for their favorite until December 10th. Additionally, the body has nominated more football players than usual.
Among the nominees to win the best football player award, only Karim Benzema is the sole representative of the list. Of course, old acquaintances such as Leo Messi, Neymar and Cristiano Ronaldo, as well as great Real Madrid goals such as Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland. The usual Lewandowski, Salah and company are not missing either.
Among the best goalkeeper contenders is none from the league, but on the bench Cholo Simeone, who won the championship with Atletico, is among the contenders. Spain’s Pep Guardiola is also nominated for Best Director.
When it comes to women’s football, Barcelona has the majority of the nominations. The Catalan has put her four players on her FIFA Best Player of the Year list. Also worth noting are Curé manager Luis Cortez and Hedwig Lindahl, both from Atlético and candidates for Goalkeeper of the Year.
