Bay State Milling has assumed full ownership of the facility after partnering with Montana Gluten Free for several years. The Montana facility carries SowNaked® Mindfully Farmed Oats, a unique variety of non-GMO, hulled oats that contain 40% more protein than conventional oats. Grown and processed according to the Gluten-Free Purity Protocol, these oats are specially supplied chain processed to ensure gluten content of less than 5 ppm, well below the FDA threshold of 20 ppm and the Gluten-Free Certification Organization standard of 10 ppm.
“This acquisition marks the next phase of growth for one of our most unique product lines. We are expanding our production capacity to produce high-protein, gluten-free oats that comply with the most stringent standards – a key differentiator for our customers and their products. These oats also deliver great taste and nutrition while minimizing environmental impact.”
— Ed Fish, senior vice president of variety solutions, Bay State Milling Company
The variety naturally lacks the husk, the outer shell of the oat plant, which requires less energy to process and produces 50% less carbon emissions than traditional oats. SowNaked Oats are available in groats, flakes and flour forms and are used by Bay State Milling’s customers to produce nutritious, clean-label and environmentally friendly gluten-free products, including oatmeal, granola, bars, cereal, oat milk and baking mixes.
