Louisiana’s Old State Capitol, 100 North Blvd., will feature “In Memory of the 1984 Louisiana World’s Fair” through Dec. 20 and “I AM A MAN: Civil Rights 1960-1970″ through March 16. Two exhibitions titled “Photos of Movement” are being held. Also, the Old Capitol will host a lecture by R. Blakeslee “Black” Gilpin on February 27 at 6 p.m. that explores the important period of black suffrage in Louisiana.

The Greater Baton Rouge Arts Council will celebrate Black History Month with “Protective Hairstyles: In Contemporary Art” at the Shell Gallery at the Cary-Solarage Community Art Center, 233 St. Ferdinand St. We are holding an exhibition called “A Story About Black Hair”.
The show, which will run until February 28, explores how Black people and people of color can break the chains of having their hair interrogated, and features work by artists from across the country.
