Bartender Krystal Gail (@krystalhail) went viral on TikTok after posting a PSA about ID etiquette.
Gail launches video address to Gen Z members who reached legal drinking age during pandemic, saying they have “no bar etiquette” and she has “bones to pick” said.
“If you’re under 30, make sure your ID is available. It’s tangible, not broken, missing, bent, or a cell phone,” she says. “Please have this ready when ordering drinks.”
Gail stresses that a photo of a person’s ID on a mobile phone cannot be legally accepted as valid identification. She said young patrons have a habit of ordering multiple drinks and handing them over to people who haven’t checked their ID, potentially jeopardizing the work of everyone at the facility.
In her caption, she added: Grow up and get your ID ready. Your drink can cost someone else’s work. ”
@Crystal Hale Giving a silly tip just because I did the job shows your mental immaturity. Grow up and prepare your ID. Your drink can take someone else’s job. #server life #bartender #foh #underage #restaurant #barre ticket #vale ticket 101 #waitress ♬ Original Sound – Crystal Gale
TikTok has received over 169,100 views and 28,900 likes since it was posted on March 10th. In the comments section, many viewers agreed with Gail and shared their experiences selling alcohol to young customers.
“I worked in a liquor store for two years. I have to refuse to sell left and right because no one has an ID. Why don’t you have one? Where is it?” ‘ wrote one viewer.
“People get very angry when I show them my ID photo. ‘Why can’t you accept this!?’ ” Second share.
“Not only do they cost us our jobs, they can get arrested and jailed if they give the flight to a friend,” added another.
However, some Gen Z viewers felt that Gale’s assessment was too harsh.
One viewer said, “It’s one thing to accuse Gen Z of being disrespectful, but it’s one thing to accuse us of not knowing how to do certain things because the world is literally closed.” …” he said.
“Okay, but… no one told me? Like I’m just trying to figure this out. We grew up normally, but then adult life stopped right..” and second writing.
“Girls we haven’t been to before???” Added one more.
