Starbucks barista and TikToker Zach Mottrow (@zmottlow) posted about a phenomenon apparently many employees are experiencing from their customers: gender-specific drinking shaming.
In a recent post, Mottlow started a conversation about a recurring trend he’s noticed at work. Pink drink She was embarrassed to order a refresher and ran into a male customer who pretended to be ordering it for his girlfriend.
Other TikTokers said in the comments that they’ve run into patrons like this too and don’t understand why they feel the need to cover up the fact that so many people enjoy their drinks. increase.

“When a man orders a drink for his girlfriend,” Zach writes in the video’s text overlay, standing behind a Starbucks counter in work clothes.
TikTok is a skit that recreates interactions with male Starbucks customers who are judged or shy for ordering “girly” drinks. The clip begins with him asking what they can get.
The camera then transitions to show a female customer holding her finger over her mustache-painted upper lip. “Um, yes, can I have a Venti pink drink with vanilla sweet cream, cold foam and light ice…it’s for my girlfriend,” says the woman.
Zach then smiles at the customer and says,
“Yeah, that’s all. But it’s for my girlfriend,” the customer reiterates, reiterating the claim that the drink isn’t for her, but for her significant other.
“Wanted a receipt? For your girlfriend,” Zack says to the customer.
“Hmm… no, it’s fine,” the customer said.
“And what’s the name of the order?” Zack asks.
“Well, my name is Sam, but my girlfriend’s name is Jessica,” the customer replies.
The video transitions to Zack holding a pink drink of “Jessica”. He handed it to the customer and said, “Here’s a pink drink for your girlfriend.”
“Thank you, man,” says the customer, holding up his finger mustache. They then exit Starbucks and as they exit the store, Zack zooms in on them and takes a sip of their drink.
In the video’s caption, Zach says baristas make no judgments about the types of drinks people order when shopping at Starbucks.
The commentator apparently had a similar experience while working at a popular coffee chain. One TikTok user wrote, “Whatever that means, Venti can he get a pink drink?” “They always say, ‘Does that sound like you’re here,'” wrote one user.
“After they finished their order, ‘What does that mean,'” another quipped.
A TikToker came up with a simple solution for customers who are ashamed of the drinks they love buying at Starbucks. “Damn if they’re just embarrassed to take mobile orders,” they suggested.
Someone else said they couldn’t understand why it was considered unmasculine for a man to like Starbucks.
“That’s a stereotype. What if a guy likes Starbucks,” Zak replied. ”
